So I went to work for this company hauling grain and crap, first time pullin a hopper so learnin it all the hard way. Only about 17 trucks in this companies fleet right now, all of which are O/O and all of which are starving!!! (except the companies owner...go figure)

My question(s) is this, we haul out of Atchison, Ks south to Dexter, Nm Texas and Oklahoma panhandle, etc.... I am all about numbers and am wondering if I am getting screwed and if so how badly????

They say the wrap the FSC into the load rate which of course is based on weight in a hopper, they say they do this to "make it convienant and simple" on everyone. A load of Hominy going to Dexter, Nm pays the company 57.00 a ton. Times that by 25 and we have 1425.00 all day long for a 900 mile trip and we make 80% (90 if it's our trailer). 1425.00 x 80% is 1140 to the truck, divided by 1.26cpm and this includes FSC?????

Am I the only one seeing a huge problem here??? Right now the minimum FSC is .40cpm so if we subtract that from 1.26cpm we get paid .86cpm before fuel???? Please someone tell me if I am crazy to be doing this or if this is really what it is!!!

Drivers here are starving (literally) and trying to get by on 700 to 1200 a week after fuel but before taxes and maintenance etc...while the company is buying more trailers, has quite an overhead with an actual office, dispatcher, safety, and payroll person.
They tell me freight rates just suck right now, but where is the FSC??? Any thoughts at all from some seasoned grain haulers out there?
