This is my thought too. No 60/70 rule, therefore, no 34 hr rule is needed.
Make the Sleeper Berth rule similar to what it was previously. No more than 2 breaks of no less than 2 hours each totaling 10 hours. Both breaks stop the 14 hour clock.
Driving should be regulated on a daily basis only, not weekly.
I sleep between 4 and 6 hours nightly. I rarely sleep more than this, usually closer to 6 now that I'm old. LOL (although rain and wind can make me sleep up to 7 hrs. hehe). The rest of my break, is sitting and getting tired. I cannot sleep well in the daytime at all, but I can nap for an hour or so sometimes. I prefer to shower in the morning, after my sleep break, because a shower will wake me up and prevent me from getting to sleep at night.
While a stop after 6-7 hrs driving is a good idea, it should not be mandatory. Nor should the driver be penalized for taking it, by losing time off the 14. Changing the SB rule to read like I said above would give me time during my breaks to exercise more and eat properly. It would be healthier all around. Especially since our schedules are constantly subject to adjustment by 8-5 FM's LP's CSR's, DOT, and every company's shipping/receiving restrictions. You know who I mean. All those people that tell us what we have to do, but could not do it themselves if their lives depended on it? The same ones who create an emergency, due to lack of planning on their part, and expect us to save their posteriors?
