Be aware that if you're going northbound through the Coutts port of entry and you're over 11 hours thinking it will be OK once you cross into Canada, the Coutts scale is operated by both Montana and Alberta.

    This is correct.

I wouldn't, however..try it at Detroit. Where you must get on the interstate and try the first truck stop....15 miles south. Unless you want to try fort street........

The answer is probably in this link. I particularly like the abbreviation for the Mexican department of transportation.... It's at the end of one of the first few paragraphs.

You have entered the united states over your 11 hours drivetime.

    You are in violation.

The answer very well could be in that link. Unfortunately I think you're the only one that can see it because it goes to a customer log-in page. ;)

    Perhaps you could copy-and-paste?

Really? I wish I could run under our rules in your country but it doesn't work that. And while you may have run under US rules while in Canada you have to be in compliance with our rules while in Canada.

In most cases, if you're legal under US rules you're OK in Canada but there are a few key differences that can have you legal under US rules while not being in compliance with Canadian HOS.

Then I can stand some churching up in the HOS, I always suspected there might be a few conflicts in my time.

    Here is how it works.

When your in Canada, you can follow the US rules to a point since their rules actually fall within the Canadian HOS parameters for most things, aside from accumulated time off duty.

Rule of thumb is when in Canada only the Canadian HOS applies, and when you cross the Border the US HOS applies from the instant you cross International borders right until you cross back. A DOT officer cannot issue a fine for being in violation of US hours while in Canada.

The same also applies in reverse. Canadian MOT guys cannot levy fines nor violations for following the US HOS while in the US no matter how hard they try. IM TALKING TO YOU CVSE YOU BUNCH OF CHEAP WEASELS.

CVSE will tell you Canadian rules trump US ones, they are wrong and don't back down from them. I fought it in court and won, and made the guy who wrote me the ticket look like a moron.

If you cross the border, and you check your time and you are out of time. You cannot legally leave the border without entering violation. Remember inspection area may be considered Canada/US territory but under DOT/MOT it is considered international grounds and you are safe from being ticketed until you leave the gates.

In simple terms, park your happy behind in the parking area and wait, or check your hours before you cross.
