Yeah the 30 min break needs to go. Even before it was enacted there is an unofficial break period within your 11. The guy that trained me over a decade ago said that he once logged 11 hours straight driving and a scale bear gave him a hard time over it.

Why is the 2nd most common complaint i see. Always about the 30 min break. Does no one want to have a linch break, or tiime to just walk around the truck. Breath some fresh air, maybe sit on a picnic bench. Sit back and let the sun hit your face, while you have a coke or coffee and a smoke? Personally i like it, i can take it just about any time i want. And id probably be taking a break mandated or not. Maybe it wouldn't last 30 min but whatever

Guess im a lazy #### of whatever you called it. I might not spend the entire 10 hours sleeping. But 14 hour days is long enough. Sheesh i used to load furniture all day, then drive 6,7, hours. All the while calling myself DasMachine. Guess what i still load and still get the load where its going on time damage free. I guess its true youth is WASTED on the young.

Out of shear curiosity I would be interested in trying an elog for a few days. You know as an experiment but, reality is, that's not going to happen until they decide to outlaw my old ride.

Dec 16 is the deadline. But there are sone exemptions. If your truck is 1999 or older its exempt. .and a few others that dont pertain to otr trucking. Except when hauling fema loads or in time of war hauling military supplies

Keep the 30 min break. Driver get out the truck. Walk around, have a smoke, look at the sky and enjoy the day. Sit outside and call the wife for your daily dose if aggrevation. Or go into the truckstop sit at the luars counter, and tell "i got 1 better than that stories" Then gonin the truck and get back at it. But allow us to stop our 14

You can try it without installing actual e log.just drive as if you had it.once I find that thing in a cab I am done with OTR unless some dedicated route, same every day.
Two weeks ago I think,I started @11 pm, drove all night but @5 am I started feeling sleepy.Really sleepy,my reflexes were slow and it became a torture to drive. I felt I will be taking unnecessary risk if I continue so I pulled into truck stop, jumped straight to bed, didn't even set alarm deciding I will sleep as much as I need to.Woke up some 5 hours later and continued to the destination. Try that with e log.I don't understand why I can't split this 10 h according to MY NEEDS?!
Oh and sure #### I will never Park on a ramp or side of the road because some elog tells me to.Ain't happening!

Personally I stop when I want. Guess my point of doing away with the 30 minute deal is this. Say you stop at the 2 hour mark, grab some fuel and a bite. Kill 45 minutes. Then you have to stop again for the 30, as mandated, before the end of your shift. Now myself I'm probly gonna stop twice to smell the roses, so to speak. Say each rose smelling atop is 15-20 minutes. At some point that 30 minute deal is gonna rear its ugly head. See what I mean? I'm not gonna sit for 8-11 hours straight, but I may, or may not, take a full 30 minute break. All in how I feel. Hell I may drive 5-6 hours, then take a 2 hour lunch. Might just take a 15 minute lunch. All in how I feel about things.
