I'm going to be as nice as I can, so please bear with me. I work for Swift, and as you all know, who has worked for this outfit, that we have to put up with a lot of crap. I am tired of the management that insists we live in a truck that is hotter than hell inside when we are trying to rest. They work in an air conditioned office, drive an air cnditioned car, and live in an air conditioned home. When are they dealing with it as we do? Those of us that have to put up with this can concurr, it's pretty bad when we have to live under Socailist Rules that they create and refuse to live under themselves. They would not live in a house when it's this hot, I ask why we, as the backbone of a large co-operation will not stand together and bring it to thier attention that it is uncomfortable to try to sleep in a truck that is hot. I don't understand why they complain when we have to idle the truck to stay cool, and get good restfull sleep. THEY ABSOLUTELY REFUSE TO INSTALL ANY DEVICE THAT WILL SAVE THEM MONEY,AND GIVE THE DRIVER AN ALTERNATE WAY TO STAY COOL AND REST COMFORTABLY! I am at my wits end with frustration with this problem, getting a write-up for it tomorrow, and am ready to tell them "Thier fired!" Yes, they are going to get the shaft, not me. I would respectfully ask, no wise cracks, just some good advise. This is hard enough to deal with,so I am really looking for an honest opinion as what to do. They are telling me my average should be at 23%,it makes no sense to me. I shut this down when I'm not in it, I run it when I'm in the sleeper. We are required to get "restfull sleep" by DOT Regulations, and I have not figured a way to comply. They have decent benifits, I can run the way I wish, most of the time, and am not a person that wants to be home all the time. I just joined the flatbed team, they lied to me as to extra stop pay and amount paid per mile, so what else is new. Guys, I know a lot of you would say move on, and I may, but just at the age that bouncing around is getting rediculous, and am an ex-o/o,as well. Been down that street, don't want to return. Screwed majorily once is enough. Rick. :biggrin_25516:

Just try calmly explaining your situation to them. Don't yell or accuse them of anything but if you have a civil conversation with them then maybe they will understand where you are coming from. Pls don't give them the "you work in an air-conditioned office" lecture because that will most likely turn things negative. Reassure them that you will only idle if absolutely necessary. f you explain yourself in a calm, adult fashion and they still do not agree, I'd say it's time to move on. Nobody can rest in a 100+ degree cab.

first off, a socialist would tell you to idle your truck. Not passing judgement one way or the other on socioeconomic systems but it's pure capitalism that drives them to tell you to not idle. It's also a capitalist decision to not use an APU because it costs more then it saves them over the time they have the equipment.

There are two ways to solve this problem.

    1. Go to work for a company that won't give you a hard time about staying comfortable while sleeping. Many companies have APU equiped trucks, Marten comes to mind right off the bat. Or go to work for a company that doesn't hassle you over idling. For instance, from reading the USxpress threads I've gleamed that they have their trucks set not to idle between something like 30 and 70 degrees. If it's under 30 or over 70 your truck will idle and they don't say anything about it.

    2. Buy your own truck or lease one. If you are paying for the fuel then nobody will give two cents whether you idle or not, except you of course because you are paying for the fuel.
