I'd rather use an F450,but you know how it goes,"my truck can haul anything."

I was under the impression you needed room receipts if truck was not equipped with a sleeper and was used beyond "local" range.

The law was changed in 2013. It now allows them to take a ten hour break in their vehicle. They have to log it as "Off Duty" and not "Sleeper Berth."

That's oil country. Start looking at hotshot companies that serve the oil industry. Try leasing on with one of them. Get Hazmat and tanker endorsements to maximize your opportunity.

It is almost impossible to disprove a negative especially the way the FMCSA rules have been written. This is the last note to §393.76 Sleeper berths. Take special note of these dates. [39 FR 14711, Apr. 26, 1974; 39 FR 17233, May 14, 1974, as amended at 53 FR 49401, Dec. 7, 1988]. These have been the sleeping birth rules since these dates! NOWHERE in these rules do I see the words Hotel Receipts and I have not seen them in the FMCSA HOS rules. Would someone PLEASE show me where the FMCSA MANDATES sleepers or Hotels for long distance drivers OR have before those dates? Please? Beware there is NO language mandating sleepers be installed by §393.76. ONLY how they must be installed their sizes and other things if one is installed. In close to 15 years I have asked this question only to get some vague reference to some other regulation that they somehow fail to remember. As a side note I have spoken to some union drivers and some CBA's they run under mandates some things like this, but to date I have never seen it published or mandated by the FMCSA.

Lepton 1, I live in Grand Saline, TX. I'm in a good geographical area, just not sure how to find and secure loads. I'm still working for a company pulling a pneumatic tanker, but am really wanting to venture out and start a hotshot operation. I've got 30+ years in an 18 wheeler, great driving record, and no criminal record. What company are you with and what are the initial steps to get up and running? Thanks for any reply.

I'm with Acme Truck Line. There's a terminal in Kilgore and a couple in Dallas. I would start by calling the terminals and letting them know what you want to do. They can walk you through the process.

There are other companies that also lease on hotshots for the oil business. Ask around. You might find a smaller outfit that better fits your needs. Start paying attention to hotshots pulling bottom tools or frack valves, note the company names, talk with the driver's.
