I asked the same thing when they bought out Hiner Transport of Huntington, IN. It still puzzles me. The freight went from Indiana to New Jersey, and it was a lot of broker freight. I think they are just buying to buy at this point.

Yeah and I am not surprised with HOS violations! Back when I worked for them in the early 90's I found out they got hammered by FMSA and one hefty fine because they basically were making driver's run 2 or 3 log books. I know it is the drivers responsibility however, they threaten drivers with their job! When I was there I was always pulled in and inspected both HOS and the vehicles I was driving! I had an accident or mishap however you want to make of it, there was NO damage to either the vehicle or the truck I was operating, once I got back I reported it just to CMOA, I was eventually fired for BS and I couldn't figure out why I was having a hard time getting a job. It was not like I didn't have the experience behind me or jumping from job to job. I was finally hire by Domino's because of a friend I worked with at another company. After a few days the manager who was running that branch brought me a paper and asked me what this was about on a paper, after looking at it and asking questions I find out about DAC which I never had heard of until then! The Saftey Manager at the time I worked for Houg after winning an unemployment award before he was fire or still had access to the DAC system he put several things on that DAC report which was as follows: Failure to report and accident, Always late on my loads and Didn't get along with my co-workers! Which was all false! I asked the Domino's Manager what he thought of all these items and explained to me what DAC was, he told me the failure to report an accident appeared to him as if I was in a hit and run accident, as for the co-workers that was false and as for the late loads I was given a load to pick up in Greeley,CO around 11 am after already being there since 7am then told after i picked that load up I was to stop back in before leaving, I did and was told to drop that trailer and grab another trailer going to San Antonia which by this time it was almost 2-3pm once I got the paper work I still had to stop and fuel and scale out by that time it was well after 4 pm and I was told I had to be iin San Antonio, TX by 6 am the next morning. You can do the math! I decided to give them another chance years later just this year and spoke with a driver recruiter Larry he told me he was going to try to change the face of Houg and how they treat all drivers! Apparently, they didn't like that and as far as I know he is no longer employed there because he fought for me to get me hired considering my experience of 20 yrs driving both OTR and local! But the Saftey guy apparently didn't think I knew how to drive so I was told to go find another job! I don't think I would ever want to give them a third chance and I do know they still treat their drivers as if they were just another number! My advice to all drivers do NOT go to work for HOUG!
