I look at these guys moving house trailers around and I think it would be a great place for me to go. I like the idea of running small roads with a big load and backing into impossible places. Have any of you guys done this, and can you tell me about how to get into it?

See if @Guntoter will give you the inside scoop.

I used to run 84 between Santa Rosa and Clovis NM every week. About 60 miles of 2 lane highway. Every week I'd have a HUGE double wide on a trailer taking up half my lane coming straight at me. It could get messy if you aren't on your toes. The pilot trucks never did much to warn oncoming traffic.

Nope. Nuh uh.
I tell you why.
We had a mobile home on our land on a acre or so. Cost about 3000 to bring it back to code removing rotted wood etc. We sold it for 8500. Crew shows up for a 30 mile move with it. First thing they said to us was they were sorry to see a nice toilet. Do we want it or can they take it out? As far as we were concerned it was sold as is, what is, with faults and good etc. They took the toilet out. (It will break during the move...)
They brought everything. Chain, spare tires, springs, pins, this, that and a crew etc. over size too. what a monster. And all of that had to come out of our long drive onto a two laner.
That pretty much confirmed in me that I do not want that kind of work. There are people who do that well. And my tip of the hat to them and a drink too. It's not for me.
I can tell you that sometimes when you see a fork lift driver, or a truck driver with talent by sight doing what needs to be done with something I cannot do.. or wont do.. it's a thing of beauty. Some people wont understand this statement and that's ok. My signature is back in to any truckstop or dock in one smooth move. That's mine. Anyone can do that with enough practice. But we all have to be good at something.taodnt Thanks this. -
Good job if you like changing tires 10 times a day, and get a first class screw gun to keep the trailer together, and may god help you with the shrink wrap.
Basically you spend 1 hour fixing for each hour driving. -

Most times, the drivers also do the set up.

Always thought it interesting when they put a doublewide on top of a cellar. Now how the heck did they get those two pieces on top of that big hole?
A guy had to move a single wide trailer off a lot. He used a pickup truck. He was driving away. I said: He better find a place to park that quick. ... The owner of the lot said: Oh that pickup will handle it! ... I said: Not for long. Things are gonna start breaking. -
