There will always be negative things to be said of all industries.
I'm about done with training and will road test within the next week. I'd like to start my solo career with as much positive energy as I can. Training has been very rough, very uncomfortable and despite seeing myself excel as a driver, I must admit I've become a bit disenchanted and fearful of what I've gotten myself into...
Enough about me though.... I'd really like to hear some of the reasons you drivers do what you do, and what you enjoy about it.
Thanks as always,
DT
How about some positives?

I am not driving yet myself but I can certainly understand where you are coming from after researching this industry. It is definitely not for everyone.
I would focus on what you want to get out of trucking and give that 100% attention. -
Over the past 19yrs this job has treated me well. There have been truly crap times, then fun times, but all in all, it has treated me good.
I couldn't even imagine being stuck in one city 5 days a week, never mind one building!
Keep at it and keep your nose clean, then you can choose who YOU want to drive for instead of them picking you. Not too many industries can do that for their employees/contractors huh?
Even while I am sat here in Ma waiting for a load, I still would rather be here than working some office job for $30k a year!

Now see, I like reading posts like this. This is encouraging. Thanks.

I switched careers after 22 years in one field. I enjoy this job much more than I even thought I would. There will be bad days and good ones too. It doesn't get old seeing something different out the windshield every single day. I have met lots of great people along the way too, in the US and Canada. Like everyoine says, this isn't for everyone, but give it a chance. Don't give up after a few months.

Looking back, it was a long road but it's all gravy now. I'm glad I stayed with it. If I were to change anything. I would've stayed away from companies that send you a bus ticket but then where would I get the experience? I'm proud to be a truck driver and have no problem advertising it.
Pmracing Thanks this. -
Bravo.
