I used to use tripmaker to help in getting time and mileage close enough when reconstructing days gone by. Also asking shippers not to time stamp my copies of the bill's. Oh it was a preload, sure it was.
How all the concrete & asphalt drivers are coping with the hours.

My "spare" logbook always had off duty the previous 7 days. More than once, I steered with my knees whilst filling in the dates, all for nothing, I don't ever recall having anyone look at it. We used to get hand written fuel receipts too.The_vett Thanks this.

I never had them ask when I was ready, your right

i remember sitting down in the dining room on sunday afternoon and filling out my logs for the previous week. "local" moving equipment. we did a lot of work out of town back then. don't miss it.

A company I worked for had a regular class on how to falsify a log. The dispatcher taught it. He was an ex driver and knew what he was doing.
The new hires would all be on the same page that way...no pun intended. We never ran over our hours by a lot but it was good to make it back home instead of laying over somewhere.Sons Hero, The_vett, Rugerfan and 1 other person Thank this. -
Ex-drivers made excellent dispatchers,,,for about a week,( or until disciplinary time was up) the job clearly wasn't their cup of tea. I mean no disrespect, but I find it difficult to believe a company would willingly have a dispatcher that would encourage false logs. Any safety officer I had always preached legality, or lost their job. I was told, when asked for a logbook, which never happened, it was better to say you didn't have one than hand them a falsified one.The_vett Thanks this.

I'm talking about the early seventies when that kind of behavior wasn't just tolerated, it was encouraged. It wasn't unusual to turn two Yakima to L.A. rounds a week and still have Saturday at home.
That particular company has been out of business for many years. One of the reasons for their demise was the huge fines they had to pay when they got caught falsifying logs.
Feel better now? -
Youngman out of Redding still advertises no layovers in their job ads. And they are running up to central Washington and SoCal out of Redding.

If he does come down here he'd have to set his watch back...about twenty years or so.
The_vett, 201, Rugerfan and 1 other person Thank this.
