Legit question.
How can you decide what rate others can haul for?
You don't even ask them what they drive, power, mpg, tires on it, how many axles, and a lot of other pertinent information.
They only way i can get tire wear costs down, and mpg of some trucks, would be to drive my truck off a mile high cliff, so for that 1 mile it did okay on cost.
Now lets add hotels, restaurants, and more costs, i have day cabs, and I like good food, not truck stop garbage.
That is a huge flaw in your just tossing around rates.
In your scenarios, in my low geared, heavy duty trucks, on aggressive tires, as aerodynamic as a house, i would lose money every single trip.
You need to at least ask the person some basic questions, before you say to them you should be charging this much. My trucks would have to be getting towed by a wrecker, to achieve 5mpg, and my tire cost is probably quadruple of some people's.
That hotel better have a hot tub, and good parking, also walking distance of a great place for dinner and breakfast.

Interesting theory, lets put it to the test.
Last week he told me on this very forum to knock it off, because i responded to a guy that personally attacked me, so i guess that i am definitely not in the club.
Said person then went back and changed their post, so i looked like the bad guy, where as I didn't change my response to him, because I am not a coward.
I was wondering if that would earn me a time out, thankfully it didn't, but @REO6205 made it clear that i needed to stop posting there, so i did.
So your theory seems to have holes in it, that he doesn't reprimand us, because he sure does.Last edited: Oct 17, 2022

You wonderful humans , are Humble Humans. It isn't easy to find a truly humble person, unless one is lucky enough to be able to have Drivers in their life. Thank You for reminding me. You would have to walk a mile in my shoes to understand how I feel about Truckers. You are Angels to me, we all can see the exact same thing, person, community and at the end of the day each of us sees everything dif because we cannot help but see things our own way.I am me, you are you. You are correct, wore out. I can see your point of view. I am in a dif place, I am a dif kind of person than anyone I know, plus I am an unimportant to everyone , nobody, and like it or not you Truck Drivers are the greatest. And you don't even know it ! How can anyone not love that.AsphaltFarmer, Siinman, MartinFromBC and 1 other person Thank this. -

You guys can charge whatever, whenever, and for whatever you want. I don't answer your phone calls or respond to emails for you. I have no say in your operation or the history of your operation.
I honestly had no idea that discussing rates would bring about this much drama.
Martin...I have no experience with anything in Canada...last time I visited was in 1992, from Minot, ND into Brandon to visit a bar because they served us beer at 18. I couldn't tell you if $8 a mile is worth the trip...you didn't mention if those were CAD or USD? If that's CAD, isn't that $1.50 US?MartinFromBC Thanks this. -
So let’s say everyone on the spot market agrees that $3/mile is the least that they will haul for. That is only going to last as long as there are enough loads to move for everyone to be satisfied hauling for $3. Once there are way more available trucks than available loads, like there is now, the rate will drop below the agreed upon minimum because people will need to work.
