If you were to do this at any speed you would overspeed your clutch, possibly causing a catastrophic failure, shattering the clutch disc, maybe even twisting the input shaft off the end when it all fails and locks up. DO NOT DO THIS IT IS NOT A GOOD IDEA OR SAFE EVER!

Why won't you let a tow truck driver pull you axles? Most of us work as diesel techs full time when not operating the tow truck, we are not just some cdl school grad who was tossed the keys to a quarter million dollar or more rig and turned loose without an education, at least most of us are not. Most of the heavy duty towers I know have more education and experience as mechanics and problem solvers, expert drivers and equipment operators than any of our customers do. We really are not like the clowns you see on tv, especially the guys at that famous towing company that works the Coq Highway.

some of the dumbest stuff I've heard has come out of the mouth of a tow truck driver, I'll be it that some of the best has come from them as well.

the tow guys I usually call are as you say mechanics full time and part time tow jockeys and I trust them but I have had some tow guys suggest some outright stupid crap and you know he's some kid trying to be like daddy and repeat what he's heard but ain't quite there yet and is repeating it wrong.

if I am confident in their knowledge and they suggest it then I'll entertain the idea but I'll be ###### if I don't try everything else before popping out my axles.

I usually go for the axles as a last resort, it is just too messy for my taste, but it is safe. If it is a coach bus or rear engine motor home axles are my first choice, it isn't pretty trying to squeeze 260 pounds of me under the rear of a bus to pull the 2 foot driveshaft out of there, same with a garbage packer in July, I would rather have gear oil on me than garbage juice. Oh the stories I can tell as a wrecker operator. Glad I am semi retired from that, only run a few calls a month and concentrate on my car carrier instead.
