You’re working to eventually own that truck after some time, so I don’t understand why drivers complain about expenses they would be responsible for anyway if the truck were already theirs. Drivers like to call themselves owners when it comes to going home or choosing loads, and in those cases, they do whatever they want because, as they say, it’s their truck. But when it comes to expenses, suddenly, they act like it’s not their responsibility. Not all companies are a scam. The problem is that people don’t read what they’re signing and blindly agree to work without understanding the terms

if you were "able to make up to 5k in clean profit" your handler most likely made 15k, gave you 5k and kept for himself 10k. so, think about it. you work your @#$ off and he made more money than you , without driving.
your @#$%& is helping those companies and corporations to become bigger , better and stronger. that is the reason they can monopolize cheap freight and take over this industry.

Deregulation and making it so anyone and their cousin can get operating authority has more to do with cheap rates than large companies. It’s pretty easy to get the revenue info for any publicly traded company.

one thing you don't understand is, when a trucker lease their equipment into a mega carrier or lease purchase equipment from a mega carrier , the trucker becomes the cheapest labor in this industry, therefore those mega carriers can monopolize cheap freight and as a consequence regular drivers loose their miles , small O/O loose their business. can you see the effect?
then as soon as those megas take control of this industry , guess what is going to happen to you????

If the mega carriers were going to take over the industry I would think it would’ve happened by now. They’ve had nearly 45 years to get it done. There will always be stuff that large carriers aren’t interested in doing or that’s not profitable for them to do or requires specialized equipment and that’s where the small carriers and owner operators come in. Same as it’s always been.

If the entire trucking industry was small carriers and independent owner ops the supply chain would be a disaster.

Furthermore, think about it......it's in their best interests to keep you running and reasonably profitable. There is no return on equipment sitting in the yard. They make exactly 0 money screwing you.

I simply don’t buy the “making someone else rich” argument. Unless you are 100% off grid living off the land and hunting your food and walking everywhere then everything in your life is making other people rich. Buy food? Someone makes money. But clothes? Someone makes money. Buy gas and diesel? Evil oil companies make money.

If I’m happy with what I make then I really don’t care what the company makes. People cry about large carriers but the reality is the same deregulation that allowed carriers to expand and get big is the same deregulation that allowed the small guys to get authority in the first place.

My life is fine, thank you for your concern. How do you live your life making sure that nobody makes money off you?

You argument of large carriers controlling the industry doesn’t hold much water when you consider over 90% of carriers operate with 10 trucks or less.
