I-81 to 581 in Roanoke down 220 to Martinsville

    over 58 to Danville.

a little longer but,4 lanes all the way.

    that's how I would go.

I have always avoided 95 and made better time on 81 to New England from Charlotte NC

    russellkanning and Skydivedavec Thank this.

Too funny.....I ran 95, then picked up 360 in Richmond.....you say 85? I will have to look at that on G Maps

Gotta agree, hit the west side of the DC belt once, at 0230, headed to upper malboro; saw maybe 20/30 vehicles the whole way. The first and last time I ever got to do 60 mph for over a minuet on the DC beltway, lol!

As I said earlier...this is a day run, leaving at 0415....my final decision, based on all of you inputs is...

    95 to 85 exit 12
    58 to 360
    naptime

    Skydivedavec Thanks this.

I agree about us 29 in Virginia , don't run that road at night if you are tired, because those narrow & non existent shoulders will drive you nuts!

    Flatbedder73 and Skydivedavec Thank this.

    Flatbedder,
I just saw where you have made up your mind and are going to bed, but I came in to post this route as well.

I run up to the North East and back down out of the Charlotte-area quite a bit myself. Interstate 81 is a cakewalk, US 220 is easy-queasy, and US 58 into Danville is good running.

    Skydivedavec and Numb Thank this.

Why not run 95 down to 301? Take 301 down to 95. There's a couple reeldlight in the beginning, but then its clear sailing to Ruther Glen. I used to run 301,all the time

301 has a pricey toll getting across the river from MD to VA...I would try 95 to 495 around the west side to 66 west to 29 south in Gainsville, VA.
