Get under your pete and snap a pic of your crossover.

Every truck ive spent more than a day driving or 5 minutes wrenching on in the past 15 years hasnt had a crossover. Exception, the FLD with mechanical conversion N14. This includes Shakers, Binders, Sterlings, Petes, KW. Engines involved, C12, C15, 3406e, ISX, N14, m11, S60, DD15.

All of these trucks used a splitter for the draw and return. Some had valves to allow shutting off and transfering fuel from side to side.

Head pressure is an obscure scientific term very familiar to those with advanced technical education.. Rocket scientists, plumbers, HVAC techs, etc. Very difficult to understand without a desire to learn.

Head pressure and siphon effect are what causes fuel to move when parked on an angle even without a crossover. Very advanced physics...

Lol you called me a rocket scientist!!!!!

We had a t680 that wouldn't equalize at the dealer. Dealer said they had to have permission from KW to put a cross over line in. KW would have to authorize the realease of the special fitting for the back bottom of the tanks. Apparently they are a special thread just to keep people from running a cross over line. Never did hear what happened with it?

@KeithT1967 is pretty accurate, although I suppose you could spec a crossover line when ordering. Paccar uses a fitting with a pendulum type arm to direct fuel back to tanks individually and Freightliner used a regular tee fitting, nothing special.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.

How expensive are standard fuel tanks that you can cross over all day long?

That makes no sense at all, I had four trucks without crossovers and told the sales dweeb I won't accept them without those crossovers, and they were all done before I picked up the trucks.

I had bad experience with a WesternStar what drew from both tanks but did not return equally so it is on the list to have on any truck I own.

By the way most tanks have drains on the bottom, standard thread and will be used for the cross over. And there is no regulation or emissions law that prevents one from being put in. I have not seen a bulletin stating that the factory doesn't want one added - including pacar products.

I was rolling across I-30 in Texas one afternoon, 1994 maybe? A truck blew a tire. Truck behind him ate the gator. Fuel everywhere. Great idea those crossovers are.....

I know how to loosen a vent. Prime filters. Transfer fuel. Even call a service truck. I also know how to report a fuel spill. Pay for two tanks of fuel. Lay on 160 degree asphalt getting drenched with diesel to shut off crossover valves. Guess which of those crappy options I'd prefer given the choice....

    Don't do crossovers...

That's what the shop Forman was telling the owner when I picked him up because the truck wasn't ready like they said???? I hate dealers and I am not a fan of new trucks. I just laughed at the guy I was picking up because they had already had his truck for 4 days. I asked him yesterday if they ever fixed it? He said "nope I just use 3/8 as my dead empty mark". So they had the truck for 6 days and didn't do anything but hand him a bill for $900.

As soon as i read this post my first instinct was to think it was one of the cross over pipes if one tank is empty and other one still 1/2 full it could be something as simple as unblocking the pipes or replacing them either way i don't think that call out mechanic was much good try a different one next time.
