Hello Everybody just to give you all an update I was hired on with a local grain contractor and on my way back to an elevator for loading I was sitting at a stop sign and another semi was coming to make a turn so i backed up to make room not knowing an suv was tailgating me I punctured their radiator or coolant tank was leaking but not enough that there was puddle to clean up anyway I got a $120 ticket for improper backing and i paid it cause i knew there was no way i could fight it and I got my dmv record and it says i was convicted of improper backing besides that all i have is the preventable i got in december 2011 before i got my cdl in may 2014 my question is is this record bad enough to keep me out of getting another truck driving job local or otr

You may want to call some trucking companies and present the question to them.

Your 2011 ticket will drop off of your 3 year record next month. That is good. For some of the upper crust, better driving jobs----- yes, your record needs to improve to be hired by them.
For the rest of the companies, you will probably be OK, depending on how bad they need drivers, which is pretty bad now, and for the future.. Let this be a learning experience, and pay more attention to your surroundings. Good luck.

Well, it is what it is. I'm guessing, (and it is only a guess,) that it won't hold you back too much. You are still in the rookie stage, and rookies have some problems. Companies expect it. Hell, veteran drivers have some problems too. You have learned from it, so move on. Just don't try to hide it on job apps, because then it WILL come back to bite you.

One thing I would caution you though. You make the statement:
This makes it sound like you are trying to excuse your mistake. Drop the tailgating part. For one thing, if you were both stopped, there is no way he was tailgating you. You goofed, plain and simple. It happens. Own it.

you should not have any problems.

you should always fight every ticket even if you are at fault, spend the money if you can not represent yourself. worst case you are out a few hundred bucks, better case it is reduced to a non moving violation, best case they drop it and maybe you pay a fine. always always always protect your lively hood. you never know when you will get a stupid ticket and it will stick or it comes at a bad time.

You'll be ok; shouldn't have any problem finding another job.
Did the grain company fire you or are you still working?
Either way, put your location on your profile so we know the hiring area you live in, in case you need help finding another job.

the grain contractor only ran me for this harvest they needed a new driver because the one they hired before me wasn't working out but my boss did say he'd give me a good reference I was hauling grain from September 8th till October 30th the only reason he let me go was he didn't have anymore work for me and also he runs 2 trucks otr hauling seed corn during the winter to july he already has 2 drivers to do that so before grain was up i started applying and looking for jobs applied to a few local jobs that don't require experience

I really don't think you got the right learning experience, the experience should be "always look before backing up in any situation" just saying gl though in your job search

Check with Comet Transportatin in Harvey, IL

PI&I Motor Express in Masury, OH
    Paschall Truck Lines
    Pride Transport

A couple of these have online applications; do that, then follow up with a phone call.

Paschall and Pride have a CDL training program for those with little experience.
