Criminal history - In 83 (at 17 yrs old) I was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor. Clean since then.
MVR - I was arrested for DUI in 83. My lawyer and the judge told me if I successfully completed one year court supervision (which I did) it would be wiped off my record. In 87 ticketed for transporting open alcohol container, had two other speeding tickets in the '80s. (Yeah, I was a bit of a problem kid then - oh, to go back in time) I was ticketed for an accident in 94 which did not stick on my record - in fact the state sent me a certificate a couple years later congratulating me on my excellent driving record since I had no moving violations in the last five years (huh?)! Totally clean MVR since then.
How bad will my history affect a possible trucking career? When I asked a rep at an independent driving school she blew it off and told me nobody will care about my past violations since they are so old. True? I sure don't want to pay for training to find out the doors will be closed or my options totally limited.
Thanks for any advice.
How bad will my criminal/driver record hurt me?

Most companies really only look at up to 10 years (unless there was a felony conviction or something very serious). I don't think you'll have a problem with yours since they are all over 10 years old and the transporting an open alcohol container is nearly 20 years old. Get a current copy of your MVR for your peace of mind and answer any questions on an application honestly. If it says 'have you ever...' answer that honestly. If it asks '...within the last 10 years...' answer that. If it asks '...within the last 3 years...' answer that. You are only required to answer what they ask since that is most likely what their insurance company will require. The good thing about your record is that you haven't ever had any suspensions. Don't worry about it and just be honest, I don't think you'll have any problems.

Sound like I’m not the only one that screwed up when young and dumb(er) . No problem, I never disclosed anything, Never was questioned about it. Almost identical, actually a bit worse Lol. I’m 55 now, never had a problem.

"Have you had a DUI etc EVER in your lifetime?" you have to disclose it. Otherwise if they go deep enough and find it which is possible (Or not) they can fire you if you did not reveal it. Make sure you explain it's cleared off the record, preferably with the original order to do that on paper.
I would not worry about you as a driver for big rigs, there are including myself people who have been felons or otherwise really naughty with tickets etc and have good run out there on the big road.
What will be a problem is if you chose a wrong employer in trucking and quit or burned out in 3 months and job hop, then eventually you are unhireable. IF you somehow keep clean first year to maybe two or three with one employer with nothing preventable etc you will find that you will write your own ticket to anyone anywhere in the USA for employment in trucking.
One bad day with injury, tows, citing or worse can take it all away relatively fast. Maybe far from home. That is one of the risks out there. We don't worry about that. Because when you are rolling a 40 ton crusher you don't worry about what could be really bad. Your thoughts are being safe first.Fabulous Maximus Thanks this. -

The OP said his DUI was cleared, I assume that is expunged. Would the OP's DUI, as old as it is, be a problem going o Canada? I was thinking Canada didn't want anyone with a DUI in their history, ever. I don't know if some DUIs can be a felony and others DUIs a misdemeanor, but I thought a felony DUI equaled no Canada.

After 5 years there are ways to get legal to go to Canada with a dui. it just takes money. lol
