The two hardest companies to get on here in NE Florida is Publix and FedEx. Publix with its fleet of 600-700 tractors, and FDX with 15k+ tractors and a air fleet of 660 aircrafts with 369 of those aircrafts heavy (DC-10, maddogs, A300, 777, etc.) Of all the companies I have dealt with, FedEx has strict regulations, and UPS is even worse.

Big companies vs small companies it's all how you look at it. I would prefer a company that pulls their own product. You can have a very large company with very few power units. I retired from BP. The 2nd largest oil company in the world and we had 222 power units. So you really never know. All you can go on is pass performance and their long range goals.
I've seen the very large LTL companies go under too with hardly any warning.I would suggest that you look for a company that hauls a product that will be in demand no matter what. Building supplies are on the down side so you'd reall have to consider that one. But also look at the job and see if your division was to go under could you transfer to another in the company. Look to see if the company is a public owned company. You can get alot of information theri if the have to sell stocks.
It's my opinion to stay away from trucking companies that make their money hauling just any freight. I all my years on the road I've seen some companies go and some were ever large (CF). So the truck size or truck numbers doesn't really indicate a good decision maker. I think if you look at the company like you were going to but alot of stock from them might be better.JustSonny and rocknroll nik Thank this. -
