It's a small family-owned company that seems really nice and makes good promises - but then, so did the other company that puts new student drivers in unsafe 20-year-old junk and works them to death...

Anyone here ever worked for Windy Hill? I'd like to hear from you.

    Thanks,
    Robin

Could anyone give me an update on Windy Hill Trucking in Eustis, Fl?
The last posts I found were from August,'08.
They seem to be the only one I have found that considers experience more important than school, recent or otherwise!
    Thanks,

Well it has been a week and no replies. I guess nobody from Windy Hill uses this forum, or they are all so happy they don't want to share! LOL
I know some of them are not on the road, the yard had 12-15 trucks home for the holidays.
I will probably go with them, anyway, I was just curious!

My cousin just got hired on with them and is currently in his last week of training. He seems to like it a lot. I don't know if its because of training but they seem to be rolling a little slow. Could be the weather too. From what I hear they are pretty laid back company. I think he said around 80 trucks.

    Maverick Thanks this.

    Thanks Chompi,
After looking around I guess I should have put my original post in the "Motor Carrier" section!
Glad to hear your cousin likes it so far.
It looks like I will probably sign on with them.
Went today for the driving test, drug test and physical.
    Waiting on a trainer.
At least they didn't want me to go to school. LOL

Yeah, it probably saved you a lot of money. I went to TDI in Sanford back in 1996 and it was expensive then. My cousin checks the forum all the time(he's the one that works for windy hill) Crazy gator is his forum name. I just spoke to him on the phone he's in missouri picking up paper to go to wisconsin. Windy Hills main terminal is up there. He does say he likes it alot and the owner is a pretty good guy. It sounds like a real personel level company.

    Thanks Chompi,
I agree with your cousin, they seem like a driver friendly company, but of course, I haven't started yet! LOL
Has he mentioned how many miles he averages a week? Just curious.
I'm not too crazy about their Internationals, especially the sleeper,(I am 6'2), but beggars can't be choosers, and believe me I'm beggin'. They have what is called a PRO sleeper I guess. I used to drive a Frieghtshaker FLD Condo and I loved it. I made a trip to Cali with a regular Frieghtliner after driving the condo, and about "wore out the top of my head" trying to stand up and walk into the sleeper.
I saw a few Centuries in the yard with condo's, but I think they are for the drivers that have been there awhile.

I believe they have all different trucks. He did say there were new volvos were coming in. He also said alot of the trucks are automatics.

    Heh Chompi, just an update!
I decided not to go with Windy Hill. Nothing personal about the company, I just couldn't justify the pay rate, .27cpm.
I did go for the driving test, drug test and physical and waited for a week to get a trainer. I called today and was told 4 drivers were waiting for trainers.
I asked why their website says "experienced drivers start at up to .39cpm" and I was getting .27cpm? I was told that" because I haven't driven for over five years, my experience doesn't count". Go figure!
    Anyway, I said "I wasn't interested".
Waiting for a trainer for a week gave me too much time to think and calculate my income. Good for me, too bad for them.
Anyway, hope your cousin is doing fine with them. Like I said, "the only problem I could see with company was what they wanted to pay me".
