Just curious guys/girls on how busy you have been lately? Had problems keeping the truck moving or have loads been pretty steady? Also just curious how long you have been sitting waiting on loads?

I feel bad for a lot of y'all OTR drivers, not puttin ya down just saying. I work for big player in the LTL industry that farms out a lot of loads to the bigger OTR outfits and i see some of these people just gettin screwed on a regular basis. There was a fellow that came in on friday from Dallas because his dispatcher told him there was an empty waiting for him in Denver to pick up,when he got there--NO empty,he dead-headed all the way up! I talked to a gal a month ago that was sitting in our yard for 4 days because her dispatch kept canceling the load on her.....Keep your heads up.

I'm a company driver for a medium size otr company. I have been busy and steady with no long waits sitting empty since I started with them nearly 2 years ago. They did not do any layoffs during the downturn, but, they did freeze wages for about 16 months. The wage freeze has been lifted and they are adding power units to the fleet, hiring drivers,(both experienced and CDL school grads) and making noises about adding performance incentives to the pay plan. Hope this helpful to you.

How long will you all wait some where for a load that pays before you take something cheap to get to a paying load?

I get paid by the hour and my boss was giving me a hard time about overtime,so I started keeping a daily log detailing every work minute.I was amazed at exactly how hard I work every day.I'm just use to it, I guess, but it made him realize that the problem wasn't on my end.He got a bargain in me.

I work for a larger company and never wait for a load.
I may get some loads with too much time on them and I have to sit for part of a day to deliver, but never waiting on loads.
Freight has been steady for the past year that I have been here. Never up and down.
And they have ALLOT more freight than they do trucks on the road at the moment. So it should continue.

These past 4 weeks have been busy. Im on a regular run and usually sit 12-24 hours between unloading and loading. Lately, there has been around 400,000# left on the docks due to overflow. I am still driving the same miles every week, just get an extra day at home right now.
