I am soon to be an 18 wheeler but now just a lowly 4 wheeler. I'm wondering what the general wish of an 18 wheeler is in heavy traffic. I know that in heavy traffic there are times when a bigrigger wants to be able to get over in the next lane, so I find myself hanging back behind him, so when he needs to get over I flash my lights to let him over.
If I wasn't there to help him out, I feel, he'd sometimes struggle gettin' over, be on the brakes often, just generally not be able to keep up to speed with traffic. It helps me out too because I get to draft him to get better MPG. Then I see that a car or truck ahead of him is driving slow, and I know he's gonna want to get over, so I get over...flash my lights and let him continue being "in the lead". When I do this, am I pissing you off because I'm drafting you? or are you liking me because I'm helping you keep up your speed? :violent2:

Ugh! If I cant see you in my mirrors because your drafting on the can then your a nuisance. Now I have to drive slower because I have to plan to stop quickly enough for the crazy 4 wheeler in front of me, yet slow enough your not going to disappear under the LTL bar.

Having you attempt to hold traffic is nice, yet most drivers are limited to just the right two lanes. Dont know about California 4 lane Freeways. Having 4 wheelers that sit in the second lane when trucks are trying to get around slower traffic is also a nuisance. If your going to do 50 mph on the highway keep it in the right hand lane only. Some of us do have loads that need to be delivered.

Just how close are you "drafting" ? Yes , you are pissing them off . It's too distracting for them worrying about having to worry about having you pulled out from under the trailer if they stop quickly . Did you ever think if you are following too closely and the vehicle behind you is following too closely behind you a sudden stop will have that other vehicle pushing you into the truck ? If that drafting is typical of your driving habits do the public a favor and never get behind the wheel of a truck .

Ever notice the "No Zone" on some company trailers? When you start driving big trucks, you'll see that you have plenty of things to watch out for just within your truck. Now, if you have to start playing cat and mouse with a cutsey 4 wheeler, it gets annoying. Give the big trucks room and courtesy since we have places to go and are not out here for a Sunday drive.

One way to help is for 4 wheels to use the 2 left lanes while the trucks use the 2 right lanes. Not to smart to draft a big rig, we can stop fast at times. I have had a nice new pick up run into the back of my trailer while drafting one time. I don't always assume that when a 4 wheeler flashes his lights at me that I am able to move over, I know for the most part that Trucks know it, but I can't assume that a four wheel car knows it.

Also, if you've ever seen the damage one of our tires can do when they blow... you might think thrice about getting too close.

    Get out of the way..........

    Seriously.......

    Allow us our space cushion.....
Don't assume we can stop on a dime......
Stay away from our "blind side"....

When you see a driver backing into an approach on a busy street... expect to stop and wait a little.....
Expect a pull-up or two.....don't assume just because the driver backed up enough to clear your lane that you can go ahead and go through.....he might not have lined up enough to make the dock or clear that tree.....

    Thank you for asking.......

Get out of my way. Do not draft behind me. Do not pull in front of me and then hit your brakes.

My truck is 80 THOUSAND pounds and it can take up to a football field to stop. I will crush your car, your wife, your kids and your little dog too. I don't want to do that.

Don't try to zip around me on the right when I'm making a wide swing for a right turn. You can afford the 2 minutes you'll have to wait.
