Not to mention the "Tow-away" on your Safe-stat.....

YOU Have got to be ####### kidding?
Yet another will go thru stunt driver training and bring another batch
of #### for brains to the playing field.
As for answering the OP direct question;
Just do as you always do and we will deal with you the best we can.
Please dont be shocked to find it isn't of a positive nature.

I didn't say anything mean or rude. I sincerely worry that some idiot in some little bitty zippy car will jump in front of me then hit the brakes one day and I won't have time to stop. I have nightmares sometimes at night of killing someone's child because they slammed on their brakes in front of me.
I'm not being mean........I'm being serious. They don't seem to grasp how much weight is coming at 62 miles an hour and can not stop as quickly as a mustang. They pull out when we're turning, or try to zip in beside us. They do it to all of us and they do not understand how dangerous it is and that we'll most likely walk away but they will not.
He asked......I gave an honest and sincere answer.bulldozerbert Thanks this. -
"Bogey"'s question was merely was he helping or hurting the truck driver?
A good point was raised by "Wiseguywireless" in that just because a 4-wheeler signals that we can bounce over in their lane, it's up to US as the professional driver to ascertain whether or not the lane change is indeed safe to make at that moment in time.
I often wonder why we take such a negative tone with posters? The OP stated he was just trying to help. Our job as respondents should be to reply constructively, not to fire off as many expletives as we can!
I have had occasions where 4-wheelers have been kind enough to let me into their lane. For those, I cannot give enough thanks. The foresight of those drivers is much appreciated. But likewise, "drafting" or tailgating is NEVER appreciated by the professional driver, for reasons already stated by others.
All that needs to be said is the kind of behavior that we find helpful (or harmful). Berating the OP serves no purpose, except to discourage such questions from the general public. After all, this WAS posted under "Questions To Truckers From The General Public", was it not? This board and responses posted should (I think) serve to educate and enlighten the general public, not demean and offend!Double L, mizdageeragn, Digitalwarrior and 14 others Thank this. -
You really think there not going that fast when you pass a truck. Stop at a rest stop and watch the trucks go by most are zooming by. Maybe that will make you reconsider cutting trucks off and passing without signaling in front of them.

Well maybe we were offended by someone driving unsafely and making our job more difficult . I NEVER pull out when a 4 wheeler flashes his headlights for this reason . http://www.cadillacforums.com/forum...eneral-discussion/135282-what-flash-pass.html .
I know of one fatality where the driver of 4 wheeler "flashed to pass " and the truck driver moved to the lane right in front of him as he accelerated to pass . Did you ever think maybe if there was enough space in the next lane for you to pull out the truck in front of you can pull out with your assistance ? Just let us drive our trucks .
As far as tailgaters go , I despise them and see no need to show them any courtesy . Unlike van haulers I pull a tanker . I can see how close they are and our safety department tells us when we are being tailgated to slow down until the tailgater decides to come around .
Most of the time what I haul is stannic chloride . It's bad stuff and was used s a chemical weapon in WWI . Getting trapped in a car jammed under the trailer if even the slightest leak occurs will not be a pleasant experience . You really don't want to stop fast after cutting in front of me because I will not swerve to avoid you . It doesn't take much of a sudden change of direction to roll a tanker . Rolling that tank could cause a major catastrophe .
Most of us are professionals and don't need help from ignorant drivers that don't have a clue about the operation of a truck .tuktoyaktuk, longbedGTs, FriedTater and 1 other person Thank this. -
Truck Drivers response to a Professional, good job hand

RickG Thanks this. -
People need to think that sometimes those 2-5 minutes waiting for a truck could save your life by keeping you from being at the wrong place at the wrong time ya know.

Tony, who berated the OP?
*edited to add*
Nevermind Tony I went back through the thread and saw some posts I'd somehow missed.
As for me......if anyone thinks I was being insulting towards the OP then they've placed the wrong inflection upon my words. I worry a great deal about the fourwheelers and the people inside them. If I could.....I'd teach every single one of them how much room it takes to stop an 18 wheeler.Last edited: Feb 8, 2010
