its amazing how many people dont even try to get over a lane for cars on the shoulder...or even get to the edge of there own lane to put a little more space between them and the cars on the shoulder
how can a 4 wheeler best help an 18 wheeler?

That's the way to do it. Key to this is, you were driving beyond the edge of your hood, good job!!

Or refuse to let a big truck over for a circumstance like that. I've had the braindead not let me over a number of times, like everyone else here, no doubt. The ones that really burn me, are the ones on your left that can see the vehicle on the shoulder, won't let you over, then when you slow down and start hugging the zipper, they slow down too. If only they knew, or cared, about how much air we move with a big truck.

please never draft a trucker. you may be decapatated if we need to put on the breaks. and do not wait until the last min. to merge out of an ending lane

today i had to stop on the shoulder for about 2 minutes.....this ########## ######### trucker i swear doin about 70 rode the RIGHT SIDE of the RIGHT LANE and im on the right shoulder.....he even had the chance to get over a lane but didnt do it, and didnt even get over in his own lane...i swear it looked like his mirrors were inches from mine as he passed, me at a dead stop, him at atleast 65
people like that need to be shot, i actually tried catching up with him i had some words for him its the maddest i been in a while but my bucket of bolts i was drivin cant even do 0 to 60 in a weekend -
My guess is that they are frightened and grab the wheel with both hands and the nervousness tends to slow them down, even though the biggest danger is right alongside them. I move out when I pass BECAUSE I am worried about being close to those 18 wheel giants.

Don't take this wrong but if you can't judge how far back someone is then maybe you should not be driving.
I can judge within inches, But your right on giving you plenty of room for lane changes.
A couple of months back, I was dropping off Baker Grade and the truck ahead me through a gator, hit the Toyota in the #2 lane taking out the windshield and sending the lady in the passenger seat in the chopper for repairs to her face, they were about 100 feet behind the truck that through the cap. I'll bet they also thought they had time to react. Since it hit the ground before it hit the Toyota CHP considered it a road hazard.
Following distance is all you have keeping you safe....Bogey Thanks this. -
I drive teams. Many four wheelers never consider that we may have someone in the sleeper--I guess all they see is a truck. I had to put the brakes on hard and it rolled my co-driver out of the bunk. Why?
coming up on an onramp. I move to left lane to let them on from their looped onramp. Two cars coming on. Should be no problem right? Well, the second car was not willing to wait on the car ahead, so he went around the first guy into the hammer lane. Umm. Hello. I had to slam on the brakes to stop from hitting this ######. Apparently a tractor trailer being there was not this guys concern at all.
I would advocate everyone needing to ride in an 18 wheeler for a set period of time to see traffic from our perspective before they get a DL.
Do you really think that guy would have cared if my co-driver would have sustained an injury due to his being in a hurry? Not a chance-don't affect his world at all.

10-4 Guy. I've always said to my associates that people getting a ticket to drive should have to pass a road test driving a '58 White S/Screw with a duplex tranny on large hills to understand how to appreicate what tractor trailer drivers have to endure on the road. And if they are capable to understand the complexities of that then do a 1 year internship of actual road expirence to qualify for a CDL. I think after that statement I better seek medical help. But,####, I can't believe how bad the quality, professional performance doesn't even enter into the conversation,of the wheel holders I see out there on the roads I frequent.

Don't know if anyone else brought this up or not, but for those of you who DON'T know what that inverted red and white triangle means. LOOK IT UP!!
