    I agree completely Tony. :biggrin_25514:

The guy shouldn't be made to feel like crap because he asked a simple question.

One thing I hate is when cars take "forever" to pass me. It seems that when they get close to my rear corner, they stay there for a while.... and then, they drive side by side with my truck for another while... it makes me think, "COME ON, don't stay there forever, pass already" :biggrin_25510:
Only after they pass me, they speed up and get distance.

I don't know, but when I drive a car, I don't like to be close to a truck longer than necessary. So, if I need to pass, I do it quickly.

    Bogey and M818 Thank this.

Just ease over on top of the zipper and most will move along pretty quick.
Others require you to split your tandems on the zipper before they get the hint.
At road speed they have no business riding there, they are preoccupied with something else and need a hint back to reality

Best thing you can do to help truckers is STAY OFF THE #### PHONE AND PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR DRIVING AND YOUR SURROUNDINGS!
Next thing: please understand a little common sense physics!
Big trucks can weigh 80,000 pounds, that's as much as 5 full grown elephants! (for those of you who have a hard time picturing that much weight) If you want 5 elephants sitting on top of you and your little car, go ahead and slam on your brakes in front of a semi!
Remember we have air brakes which means we can "stop on a dime and give you 9 cents change". What you forget is that dime is the one in your ashtray! Again, slam on your brakes in front of me and I WILL STOP ON THAT DIME! EVENTUALLY! (of course, you wont be around to get that 9 cents change either)
We know we are slow and hard to get around but if we could go as fast as you we would! Give us a break and I guarantee we wont hold you up for any longer than absolutely necassary! Most of you forget, we dont like to be held up either.
Pass if you have to, but dont dawdle! I've seen what happens when a tire explodes and goes into a car. It aint pretty!
Please give us lots of space, space to turn if we are turning, space to change lanes, and space to stop. We dont want to hit your vehicle any more than you want to be hit. You'll get hurt, most likely, and then I get tons of paperwork and other hassles to deal with.
Thanks for asking! I wish more people wanted to learn the easy way like this instead of the hard way!

First of all, I'm pretty sure I didn't even slightly imply that I ever ZOOM around truckers and then slam on the brakes. I know that is your worst nightmare and I personally get offended when I see other 4 wheelers do it.
Secondly, When I was saying 'drafting' I meant 50 - 100 ft in back of you. I never get closer than 2 car lengths, I know that's dangerous. And at the same time that you say you can stop and I can run up underneath you and then the next breath you say it takes 2 football fields to stop when dumb*** pulls in front of you and slams on the brakes. I'm a good enough driver, I believe, that I would never ram the back of a truck because again I'm 100ft back. Mythbusters said I can get 15% better mileage at 100ft back, while at 10ft behind you there is negligeable savings. WHile pulling campers I would get 1.5 better MPG while driving 75-100ft behind you vans. I don't do it with any others, just vans. and I always make sure you can see me and I never ever ride in your blind spot.
I'm more likely to help the trucker than nearly anyone else on the road because I know that your making a living out there. If someone is cutting truckers off I make sure they know it was a bad idea, because its not something YOU can do easily, plus I don't have 1-800 phone numbers on my car.
Thankyou Mastertech and Tony, you two get it. I was asking because I want other 4 wheelers to know how truckers feel about this subject. Apparently most truckers want to kick us 4 wheelers' ash... WHy? Just because...LOL
I'm one of them that when a lane is merging in half a mile .... then a 1/4 mile ahead ...then in 300ft... I LET THE 18 WHEELER OVER unlike any other 4 wheeler...I'm THE ONLY ONE..... and then when we're all waiting because the 4 wheelrs want to get up and merge at the last second,..Of course, right in front of an 18wheelr...Yeah it pizzes me off too, so I get over in that merge lane so they get the freakin hint that ITS TIME TO MERGE "NOW". some of them just go around me but most of them get the hint... I did it once about a week ago except this particular merge was pizzing me off more because it allows a lot of time to merge and it really screws the people over if they don't merge when you SHOULD...LIKE BACK THERE <<<<<. So I get over to stop the maggots and this guy just gets over more, so I do too and force him into the concrete wall. So he had to stop, he merged in back of me..so I get back over into the lane having made my point and he guns it to get around me so he can get 2 or 3 cars ahead before the merge ends.. I look over to flip him the bird and I can see his badge on his jacket, He's a Columbus Cop and we're in Columbus. Two minutes later I'm passing him in the fast (30mph)lane, I honk at him and with our windows down slightly and called him a feekin' Icehole. I don't think he liked it.

So you get your rocks off playing silly games with other drivers and inciting road rage . You want to "be an 18 wheeler " and have a bigger toy . Forget it . Any trainer out there will put you out of his truck .
FYI 50-100 ft is too friggin close .

So then what irks me, is YOU 18WHEELERS do exactly what you're telling me to NOT do, which is....O.K. You got 3 truckers mozeeing along on a 4 lane highway, all of them in the right lane. The one in front is stuck on 62mph , the second one starts to slow down just slightly(actually starts to coast) until he determines that its safe to get over to pass. the 3rd trucker sees its time to pass so he gets over and knowing that the 2nd wants to pass the front dude, the 3rd flashes his lights to let 2nd over. Thats life on the road. Thats real.
So if I'm seeing that happen and I'm the one behind the 3rd trucker .....I see that 2nd and 3rd dude's want to get over so I let them by flashing them to proceed. Now that was a gimme...Now say we're approaching a hill, there's a line of 6 cars to the rear of me, I know that all three of you truckers are going to be going slow and then slower up that upcoming hill and you would just love to get your turbo wound up just a little and pass the front slowpoke, So I see your gonna struggle up that WHOLE HILL if I don't let you over, because the cars in back of me are not even slightly concerned about letting either one of you into the second of Three lanes going up that hill... So then half way up that hill there's an entrance ramp and a bunch of trucks accelerating very slowly just to enter the highway and in a split second I'm thinking these two truckers would really like to get in that middle lane or else everyone of them thar truckers are gonna be pitchina blitch. So all it takes is for me to give one slight IOTA of a hoot to help out my fellow man ('er two of 'em) so they can get on up dat hill ...we're not going up yet and knowone behind me is gonna slam into me for doing it...DO I let you over? Or do I say screw'em? uh huh gots ya' there. Are you still blitchin' at me now. The line of cars behind me now have just the left lane to go up the hill not two and you can dominate the two right lanes up the hill...are ya' still hatin' on me now?

    You say
"You want to "be an 18 wheeler " and have a bigger toy . Forget it . Any trainer out there will put you out of his truck ."
I ain't gonna have a trainer. I'm gettin my own semi like PHARMPHAIL did, except I'm gonna get a 6 car trailer and use a dispatcher that'll broker my loads...I know its a bad time to start into truckin' so I ain't gonna start at $.26/mile so I can make $450/wk.
And inciting road rage is just what I'm trying to avoid by closing the gap at the merge. If I don't close the gap 200ft from the end the likelihood is greater that the last-seconders are gonna make someone wreck back <<<<<< there<<<<. I'm preventing road rage
And what's this "TIM's quote" I have 1 1/4 second to respond. Does your truck stop like a Porsche. My Minivan can stop closer to that Porsche than your Peterbilt. You slam on your brakes, you're not stopping, you're slowing down. I still have PLENTY of time to react. There's no way I'd struggle to react quick enough, unless I'm steering with my legs, while making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
