I stand corrected then. Both countries are moneywhores.
I have a 13 year old DUI and was refused entry to Canada. When the woman at customs told me I could pay $1000 for rehabilitation, I almost bust out laughing. I had been crossing daily for almost a year when they refused me entry (and threatened to lock me up)... I asked her rhetorically, "So, if I pay $1000 and you deem me rehabilitated, then that insures I won't drink and drive and kill Canadian citizens?"
How can I find out if I can cross the canadian border?

yes --that is pretty ridiculous tho isnt it----one would think there is some kind of a time limit on those things
i had a possession charge from 79--no conviction -absalute discharge--and it still comes back to haunt me in us---but that in canada is ok--
now i think you have up to 2 lbs and it be considered personal stash --and wont be arrested--times sure changelilillill Thanks this. -
Pretty much anything over 10 y/o is OK, I have a couple things that happened in about '82 or so that they don't care about.
Now, that said... Quebec is pretty much Canada's Kalifornia, they do whatever they want. I have 2 friends that have been through multiple immigration checks in the western provinces and cleared with no problems. Both of them got the boot in Quebec, one was over a 6 y/o domestic violence charge and had been cleared 6 times out west ( now banned from all of Canada), the other guy was for a more than 20 y/o domestic violence charge, even though it showed that he completed counseling and all the other bs that the court wanted he was turned around at the border and banned from Quebec...no big loss.
I've been through Windsor/Detroit, handed the guy in the booth my passport and bol and he stamped it w/o even looking at me or up from his magazine. Also in the 2 years that I've gone through N Portal (N Dakota hwy 52) and Sweetgrass,Mt (I 15) I've never gone through customs... only once at Emerson, Manitoba... I 29 N Dakota.
Personally... I would just get a passport and go. -
I don't understand why everybody is making such a big deal about crossing a border(and I'm talking both ways).
If you are going to Canada, fax your papers in advance, call the broker before you cross...No big deal
If you are going to USA, fax your papers to broker and ABC, call your broker before you cross, and make sure you have both entry number and ACE done...
I do it every week....Never had a problem...
Cheers,
MiaKicaJBMChad Thanks this. -
Oh, and make sure you have a passport....
You wont be going back to USA if you don't...American or not...
