This is an old thread but I wanted to update some information for those inquiring now. There is no FMCSA rule regulating the common transportation of firearms for personal protection. The Department of Transportation specifically list that it is a matter of state law https://ntl.custhelp.com/app/answer...2LzEvdGltZS8xMzUyMDgxNTExL3NpZC9ialRxeHRhbA==

I am from GA also and have a WCL carry. I currently run only a few states from GA to MI and back down. Currently, only two states within my route, do not recognize the GA WCL. All states have a law on how to transport a firearm if a person is not a WCL holder; and in those two states, I try to comply to those laws: I only ready my arm if I'm sleeping in an area perceived to be a rough area.

You can get the list of states that recognize the GA WCL here: http://www.georgiapacking.org/gflr.php
And anyone can get the carry regulations of each state here: http://www.handgunlaw.us

if you have the gun and would use it you probably are not stable enough to own it
if you have it wont use it I will just take it away and hit you over the head with it
if you carry it locked up without ammo in it why have it
    geesh

Grats, you just gave me reason to use it and reason not to follow silly rules made by hand ringers.

I would really hope that you just worded that first statement wrong. As you've worded it, it appears you think that anyone who is willing to defend themselves in a life and death situation is not stable. If that is what you mean... Move to Mexico.
As far as statement number 3, I believe I made myself crystal clear that the gun comes out when in a perceived rough area. I don't recall any reports of drivers needing to defend themselves when in suburbia or on the interstate; yet in rough urban areas, I will defend myself if needed.
