I've gotten my cdl permit and Im now studying for the pretrip and the road test. The third party testers will provide me with a truck to take the test but I want to to train beforehand. What are my options to rent a truck and a trailer to practice in. I've looked online at ryder but I'm not sure if i can get someone in the truck to train me. Is it possible to go on craigslist and pay an owner op to train me. If so how much should I charge. So what are my options. Im looking to practice before the test. Thanks

It's going to be hard. I see your trying to get the license without going to school. When you decide to go that route. You need somebody who is going to train you drive. My suggestion is to find a company that train. It is a great responsibilty in driving a truck. It will be well worthy for everybody on the road that you are educated properly. No short cuts to be trained. I hope the best for you on your journey.

i am pretty sure ryder does not rent out class 8 trucks and trailers to individuals but rather to companies.

and you DON'T CHARGE ANYONE to train you, YOU PAY THEM.

try craigs list for an o/o who has the time to teach you.

See if you can work out an hourly rate for the third party tester's truck.

I'm just curious, what company will you hire on with after your comprehensive 4-hr training course?

Anyway, best of luck. Stranger things have happened....

I paid $100 an hour for 3 hours practice. Well worth it.

I'm sure if you offer the right amount of money some O/O would only be to willing to take you out and show you the ropes. Why not go around and canvas any of the local truck stops.

Probably won't find an owner-operator these days due to electronic logs and wear and tear on the truck. It's very competitive these days and every penny must be accounted for plus their insurance won't cover you .
    Which city are you near?
