I actually found a website that one can live a dream as a "trucker" passenger for a few days thanks to one of your suggestions. As for "Lil Blue Pony," sometimes one's fantasies don't match reality do they?. I'm not looking for a husband (after all, I'm a Hillary supporter). The Hillary posts are scary! My Dad actually drove trucks for the State highway department in the midwest when I was growing up. He couldn't wait until we had a huge snowstorm so he could work for days with no sleep making the highways safe for everyone, especially truckers. Stay safe. Judy

Please be very careful , there are alot of good drivers out there but just like every other aspect of life, there are bad folks.Be sure you get to know the person and then let someone know who you are with. Be sure to take a can of Lysol with you for the showers that are supposed to be clean. Also some antacids for the food . It's a live you have to get used to, once you've been out here you will wonder if we are all crazy to keep doing it but once it gets in your blood you can't quit. There are so many good things out here if you will look at it as a positive, it's like the rest of the world, take the good with the bad. Hope you get your wish. If I were still an O/O I would be more than happy to let you ride. If you get your chance let us know what you think. Speed safe! Remember: If you've got it, Truckers brought it!!!

Hey Judy I am just guessing at what you want to know but I am guessing it is how to be a "Lady Trucker"? I consider myself to be a Lady Trucker. I make good money and I present myself as a person with dignity. There are good family oriented women out here, who have respect for themselves. We are the ones not on the radio and we are the ones who use the front door of the establishments we must frequent. You can still be pretty and comfortable and dignified at the same time. Keep bottles of water on your truck to wash your face and brush your teeth. Pay close attention to what you ae doing because in this world of macho men they automatically assume that you have no idea what you are doing. Make sure you can back and read a map fluently. Plan your trips ,leaving enough time to sleep and learn your log book inside out. As a woman you hae to be superior to the way you do it and expect no praise for doing it better.

Do not let it get under your skin and staying off the radio will be your best thing. I have a lot more suggestions but I would rather be clear if this is what you need to know.

Thank you for your responses and suggestions. They were great and so thoughtful. If I ever do live out one of my dreams, I will certainly let everyone know. Judy

For many years I have had the same dream as Judy.

I am 59, and retired. Judy if you find a way, please share the info.

I also want to do a lot of traveling by RV across the country, now that I am retired. Looking for someone to travel with and share expenses. It is a little like looking for a needle in a haystack, but who knows maybe someday.......

If not familiar already,my suggestion is going Greyhound. One could start in Baltimore on short rides like to N.Y.C and D.C.,while learning the in's and out's of bus travel. And going to beaches, museums, ect simultaneously.

Then purchase a unlimited travel ticket, and live out your wildest dreams.

Last I saw Greyhound pretty much eliminated the north west USA routes.2 week advance gets a nice ticket discount. From a Truckers/Bus Travlers point of view I can afirm that the experience is similiar.

Upsides: No stressfull deadlines to meet and toxic factories/freight ,expensive fuel issues,ect..Greyhound stops at many truckstops even at 3;30am. Riders can stay for a couple days wherever and catch the next bus.The seating height of the bus is at or heigher than the cheap, slow fleet rigs.Take a window seat and wave to drivers, when the bus is blowing their doors off, going west up needles (Which reminds me how great a couple days in Laughlin NV. would be in the middle of the winter).Great people and places!!

    What are YOU waiting for!!
    Happy Trails !

I may be too late on this,I am in th position to give you your ride. My only problem is getting you on the truck. I don't usually run east of Minnieaplis. If we can get this minor fubar out of the you can ride.

Yes, I'm still interested in that trip. I'm thinking about November for the trip as I have to travel to Chicago on business and to California to visit relatives during the next few months. I will travel to Minneapolis if that is where you leave or anywhere that is the closest to Maryland. Thank you and let me know a little about what the trip would be like. Thank you again.
