I have a T800 with a 72 inch sleeper and a 248 inch wheelbase, no side extenders. So i was wondering how can i shorten my wheelbase?
Idea number 1:
Remove the sleeper and put a 86' studio with side extenders.
Idea nine 2:
Move the twin screws forward

The size of your sleeper has nothing to do with wheelbase...your truck is already pretty short.

get smaller tires, no wait, get bigger tires. and a smaller fifth wheel

Actually what I'm trying to do is close the gap between the rear of the sleeper and the front of the can. Right now i have a 5 or 5 1/2 foot gap with the 5th wheel slid all the way forward I'm trying to get it to about 2 1/2 foot gap

Maybe you could get longer fairings on the back of your bunk?

I thought about fabricating some fairings since the truck didn't come with them, i measured the gap and came up with a 3 1/2 foot long fairing which would look kinda funny i think.

some of those chassis's are different than others. as far as kingpin location, etc... We used to have a lot of problems with 20ft chassis's and Chief brand chassis's because if you didn't put your fifth wheel back it would tear off the mudflap hangers or even get hung up the truck frame on the chassis frame when turning or going over rail crossings.
I dunno if you pull the same chassis all the time, maybe a different one will change the spacing. of course the old style 20ft container chassis, the container sits behind the fifth wheel so no way you are going to get a 2-1/2 foot gap. I guess you want to improve your fuel mileage or something, but I wouldn't worry about it, with all the other concerns like getting your weight right and having clearance, etc... -
Just move the king pin and landing gear back a couple of feet or add a reefer on the front if the trailer.
tw1005tx and dannythetrucker Thank this.
