How can i tell if my tires have been properly balanced?

I just put on a couple of new steer tires and i told them to do balancing too but im not sure if they did. My truck begins shaking a lot for a couple minutes when i go over 70 mph and im wondering if the new tires are the cause. I can feel it in the steering wheel go left to right like the tires r wobbling? Any help is appreciated.

 

The first thing I would check is make sure they got the lug nuts tight. It doesn’t sound like they got it balanced right though if it’s at that high of speed. Did they use actual weights on the rims or just throw in a bag of beads or something?

 

Need more information does the wobble go away after a couple of minutes? Many possibilities make a remote diagnosis difficult at best. Try to describe everything to narrow down the guessing.

 

If you got a shake that wasn’t there before they messed something up.

 

I would suggest that you CALL THE PEOPLE THAT MOUNTED THEM.
Ask them the same question.

 

You can check the balance by jacking the front end up, spin the tire. Mark where it stops at the bottom. Do this a few times. If it always stops in the same place. It’s out of balance. Heavy spot will be on the bottom. I’d check the tie rods, drag link, wheel bearing end play, king pins, spring bushings, if it still does it after balancing. Have the rims checked for being slightly bent. Common problem on aluminum steers. Also have new tires checked for out of round, Both can be done while jacked up on vehicle, by spinning the wheel/tire, while placing a stationary object against the tire tread, and the bead of the rim. Or while on the balancing machine. Equal tire beads work good, I prefer them over weights. Over time tire changes as it wears. Balancing beads, or equal, changes with it. Same idea as Centramatics. Much cheaper.

 

All very good information but the person asking this question has no ability to Jack up a semi truck. Otherwise they would already know the answer to there question.

 

Hopefully one isn’t out of round. Did it not shake prior to the new steers? We’re new steers the ONLY thing that changed?

If so I’d get them rebalanced and if it still shakes then you got a bad tire unfortunately.

 

Sure sounds like they " buffaloed" the balance job,provided your alignment was good and old tires, not just "worn into place". Maybe a weight fell off .Sometimes you get a "tar" that is a real mofo to balance. Maybe they thought it was "close enough".

 

Yes the new tires were the only thing that changed. It was done at a ta, i will just have to stop at at another location and try to get them rebalanced i guess.
