i figured my cost a mile including all my house bills. not including my pay as the driver. i need 1.29 a mile. so including my pay of .30 a mile i need 1.59 a mile. and this week i averaged 2.21 a mile. so even with fuel it was a good week. oh 2500 mile week

Did you really get your truck and trailer for free??? And hoping the next one, once the old one becomes junk, will also be for free?
I think this is a classic example why the brokers are getting filthy rich at our expense...last week a broker tried to convince me how my overhead is actually no more than 1 buck/mile and that I should be extremely happy with his 1.5 bucks on a loaded mile. He called me greedy and hung up when I tried to explain how that's not enough!!??jardel Thanks this. -
own my truck outright. im leased on with a small company. 12 o/o s boss has 1 truck. i get 80 % gross. so yea 1.59 is my line nothing under it. id love to make more but i got to make a living. 1.29 is everything house payment ,food, truck fund, taxes, everything. .30 to me could more but anything above the 1.59 goes in to savings.

Called Landstar and they had the load as well. One of those first to book it gets it deal. Booked it with LS and got a better rate than earlier in the month. Told shipper about this guy but they didn't seem to care.
I haven't been doing this that long but it seems that you find these types of brokers once a week. -
I just hauled a load for a new shipper and i saw some brokers had the same load posted so i called to see what they where paying. The load from the shipper payed $2,200.00 on 550 miles and of the 3 brokers i called they where $1750, $1850 and $1,950. A range off 11.5% to 20% off the gross. Ohio red neck you must have some real low house hold costs. It cost me $1.20 just to run my truck never minded my house hold costs. If i took my truck payment away it would still be $.98 a mile just for the truck.

c'mon guys...80 c for fuel, 20-25 for truck, 10-15 for trl, 10-15 maintenance, 10 for insurance and registration...should I continue? aren't we already at around 1.40-1.50? And where's everything else? And the driver?
AND WHO CARES IF THE EQUIPMENT IS PAYED OFF? WHY ON EARTH WOULD ANYBODY BE WILLING TO GIVE THOSE AMOUNTS TO ALREADY FILTHY RICH BROKERS.
The other day I ask a broker 2 bucks a mile...he asked why do i need that much? I said 1.5 for truck and 50 c for the driver. After he figured I was driving myself he attacked me why am i charging him for a driver though i drive myself...he concluded that i should be able to pull it for 1.5 then???!!! -
hey Ohio... 1.59/m ok with you? minus tax = 23-24 K a year? am i right?
AND YOU ARE HAPPY WITH THAT???
and what happens if/when your 5th piston blows up like mine did?? you have 20 k in savings for the repair (complete overhaul) and to survive 1 month without a job???
please don't be spreading the disease...many of us are in deep crap already even without your 'help'.jardel Thanks this. -
Brokers serve a legitiment and valuable purpose. Many companies could not afford to hire someone to do the work that the broker does. It is when they go from taking more than 20% but let their customer, the shipper, believe they are doing the job they are hired to do but are just trying to find the lowest bidder.
A broker should be focussed on making sure that they get a reliable and safe carrier to haul their customers freight.
It is like a machanic. They can do honest work, make an honest living and do well. Or they can look to rip people off every chance they get.
I would rather drive MT than take a load from a broker that tries to tell me I don't need to make a certain amount.DirtyMartini Thanks this. -
