How many trucks do you currently own and manage? I can tell you that the verb "cheap' should be an indication of what they offer. Stay away from that type of freight and leave it to the mega carriers. If you are looking for long term and stable contracts so you don't have to hussle, you may not last long.
I only own a couple of trucks currently but put forth the effort to keep them loaded and rolling.
Say no to cheap freight, don't get lazy. If you do, give me a call when you file bankruptcy so I can snatch up the equipment at a good price.

What rate do they pay per mile usually? Just curious do you get all your loads from load board? Also what's the best way to get contracts with shippers? I was told the only way to survive in the game is to have contracts. If you get all your load from the load board you'll not last long.

Rates depend on too many factors to list. I can tell you that my year to date average on all miles is decent. I do have a couple of direct customers but rarely utilize them. 95% of what I haul comes from load boards. Whoever told you that people like me don't last long doing business like that are not being honest.
It can be done, but you had better be ready to put in 14+ hr days every day. You never did answer my question, how many trucks do you currently manage?

Currently just one plan on adding a few more pretty soon. Whenever I tell people that all my loads will be from load board they laugh and say you need contracts or else you'll be done within months. I kinda figured they were hating since I knew what I was doing. I plan on getting all the load from load board so I'm down with 14+ hr a day if not more. If walmart, target, UPS, FedEx, and any other top company paid 2.30 per mile I'd be good but reading through answers seem like they pay less than that. What's a good rate you'd pay a new driver who just got his CDL and a person who has had it for 1-3 years??? From what i read .30-45c .30 is pretty low ball and I don't want to pay .45 for a new driver who just got CDL with 0 experience

That's between you and the driver. I start mine out at a certain amount and have a 90 day review to decide if and how much of a raise is warranted. My goal is for my drivers to receive substantial raises :)

Might consider doing that if I end up hiring a new driver who just got CDL so I don't have to risk a higher pay up front

Don't forget about your insurance company. They have a huge impact on your business.

I do some local, direct ship for a small business/industry. I am there for them anytime, with a few hours notice. They just asked if I would lower rate. They are looking for mega rates. See how long before I am on the outside looking in? :dontknow:
