I'm 950 miles from my companies yards/offices. I wish they had a shop in texas so I could have the truck worked on while at home.
How close do you live to your trucking terminal? How important is that?

This topic is what actually is making me consider not going with Schneider. Terminal is over 50 miles away and the I-5 gets jammed on more than 1 occasion. No way am I leaving a company truck parked at a truck stop unattended. Especially starting out as a rookie.

Same..... 6 miles away

About 2 miles from the terminal where we've got the shop, some trailers and trucks, and the administrative/safety functions.
About 8.5 miles from the cheese plant where dispatch and most of the main business for the terminal occurs.
Most of the time I could ride my bicycle down to the terminal and fetch an open daycab and trailer from there and start my night.
Very rarely do I have to ride all the way down to the plant.
If I do I typically latch the bicycle to the back or put it in the cab and just take it back to the main terminal before heading out to a dairy.
Like any job, I always like to be close to it as opposed to making it into a grand commute.
You drive all day or all night, some of us kind of not want to drive any more on off-time.born&raisedintheusa Thanks this. -
There really is a good point to all this.

35 miles, one way. When I did Long Haul (OTR), I had to park the rig where ever I could, and frankly didn't like it. To park at a terminal or in my case, the customers site is a God send. If the truck needs service, Penske down the street from us goes there and get's it or I drop it off.
Same for trailer repairs, I call my boss, he sends out a shop service.
I think the actual importance falls on the company one works for. If you work for a company far, far away and you get home time, how does the truck get serviced on that time, as opposed to say, having to go to a terminal, waiting several hours, or switching out trucks..?? -
I now live 1.5 miles away, about 5 minute commute

I live about 15 minutes from the yard if I go direct from my apartment. More like a half hour if I detour to say goodbye to my kids.
