Then you could just charge rent and drive them all over the country instead of messing around with booking freight.

Others have eloquently stated reasons why most people won't/can't team. I'll ignore all of those very valid reasons and just focus on the 'starting out' part. Some people like the idea of having someone else on the truck that they can ask questions of (directions, QC work, backing, etc). Most everyone else like having the space and time to work thru the issues and not rely on someone else. It's one of the reasons I like SNI's training schedule, 1 week on the range/paperwork, 1 week on the road with a trainer, 1 week of finishing and QC training, then 60-90 days with a starter DBL who can adjust their miles based on performance.

We all feel pressure to perform. When you feel another person is relying on you it is natural to try and exceed expectations. Thus a new driver might push themselves farther than they should because "if the wheels ain't turning, we aren't earning" and they don't want to let their partner down. Instead they lay the truck down on it's side.

Or conversely the new driver is overly wussy, stops every hour, whines about 'driving hard' and completely screws their co-driver.

New drivers don't know what to expect so more will feel more comfortable soloing than teaming off the bat. I know at this point I could survive teaming - I wouldn't enjoy it but I could do it. If I'd had to team three years ago I wouldn't have made it as a truck driver.

The only way I would be able to team is if the other guy was exactly like myself. Then again, I might end up having to beat the hell out of him if that was the case.

Well, I am glad I read this post thread. I am looking to start back in this industry and I would like to thank all that have posted for your good advice. It has given me a lot to think about. I was considering going "Team" but maybe I should do a little more research on this issue.

I don't understand. You've been trucking 20 years, and have never teamed?

Yes that is correct. I have always run the 150 mile radius except for a few occasions. I know a lot of drivers that have never teamed. Most of the time moving equipment you do not have to travel very far. Most local drivers I know have been driving longer then I have and have never driven other then local or regional, and they have never teamed as well. I am looking to get into the Long Haul and thought I would at least check my options. Drive Safe.

The logic escapes me in this question. A good friend is asking me to team in a newly leased truck. His company which you all know has made a very good offer paying 90 something. Ipaa would have to leave my company that you all know.... ok the miles are far than two slos would do and the pay is twice what I'm imgetting. What am I missing?

Space is too small for 2 people that aren't intimate, IMO. I'd never consider it.
