How come no one mentioned how much work is involved for authority audit?

I have a consultant that will handle the audit for a fee of $150. He's already done the state PUC audit for me. Breezed right through it.

Yeah I decided to deactivate my authority for now until I have more time to deal with all that. It may be never since the broker and I have come to an understanding. I like to keep things simple. When I was in charge of my IT business my clients loved me since I had everything so organized and simple without any bs or drama. The mega corporations that people hate took over which is interesting that people use the services of the companies they hate when a competitor that provided a better service is not as well known.

The New entry audit isn’t a big deal. Don’t stress about it. Just get everything together. Use the checklist on fmcsa website Include all forms and updates in a Drivers file on yourself. Have a drug alcohol program in place. And maintenance file on equipment. 6 mos logs and fuel and loads (conf and BOL) records. Any shortcomings will be suggested. And taken note of. That’s why you should try to be thorough. If you’re ever Audited for a reason in future. They may check your progress on earlier suggestions. I’ve always noticed every Company always has something they pay extra attention to, I’m sure because they’ve been warned about it in audit.

I run 1 Truck 1 Trailer. I am the only Driver . Therefore I am exempt from logging pre or post trip inspections. However I have no desire to embarrass a DOT Officer during an inspection and suffer the wrath. So I do both every day.

Yeah actually I had a few things already in order such as the drug testing and the logs but some of the other paperwork and the threat of a denial based on the personal opinion of a possible hater didn't sit well with me. Even when I am stuck in traffic I hear haters on the CB comment about my nice paintjob and truck about how I'm broke after my bills or how my fancy truck doesnt generate more money and things of that nature. Many jealous people are my natural enemies. The thing about that is I just grabbed any truck that was available so I could lease on and it happened to be fully customized and spaced to the max. I would have been fine with the lowest standard truck as long as it was new to keep my downtime low.

No, no you are not. You are exempt from needing to do a DVIR (post trip), but there is nothing that says you are exempt from logging either one if it's done.
If you do a pre trip, and you should, it must be logged as you do it.

You mean protest period? I guess? I really don’t think much weight is given to it unless it’s an unsafe Carrier trying to sneak back in. Either way if you change your mind and need help with proper files PM me. I have copies of everything put together for a friend who changed his mind.

I used to teach complex electronics at Motorola both in America and in Malaysia. I am not a genius by any stretch of the imagination but I do have a gift for cutting through the bull and making things simple to understand. It is why I was promoted. Thank you for the compliment.
There are many aspects to running a trucking business and many here seek to make them complex. In reality it is not that bad. Everything is a wager a gamble. You weigh the odds. Everything from choosing freight to drinking a beer in a truck stop. From deliberately deciding to go down a road with a weight limitation to befriending a broker. Everything is a gamble, Many truckers here think that there is only one way. I wish it was because life would be so much simpler. No, you have to constantly roll the dice and weigh things in your favor by using that odds machine we call the brain. I so wish you well and if there is anything I can help you with I am at your service.
