The company I work for pays a daily rate. I get $150 for the 4 farm days and $200 for the 5 farm day. If everything goes as planned it's not bad IF being the keyword. The other day the truck broke down and I sat on the side of the road for 1-1/2 hours until the shop got someone over to my location, the cause of the breakdown was a leaking radiator hose. This is not something I could have prevented.

I have a farm that is not ready for me on a regular basis, I have countless hours sitting there waiting for him to finish milking, unpaid time. Starting the run later is not an option as the first farm starts milking almost as soon as I have it emptied and the wash is complete.

On average I likely have 5-10 or more hours per week that I don't get paid for. Then there are plenty of times that I MUST slow down driving in the snow. Safety is #1.

I plan on staying with this company for a while but after I have some more experience I want an hourly, full time, local , year round position. Does it exist or is this as good as it gets.

I feel like daily, percentage, and cpm are all structured to ensure the driver gets cheated when things don't go exactly as planned. The pay is clearly setup around nice dry weather, no delays at the farms and no equipment breakdown.

For now it's a job, steady work, and valuable pay driving a smooth bore tractor trailer.

I get guaranteed pay, 850 per week, plus all hub miles... I haul cement, lime and f ash for a dedicated customer. But, I'm also on a Texas clock... 12 hours drive time and 15 hours on duty... 70 over 7 days and only a 24 hour reset. I wish I got paid by the hour with overtime.

Depending upon where you live, that's pretty good money and you don't have to deal with the morons on the road. With that massive corporate tax cut and in ny minimum wage continuing to rise trucker pay needs to go up.

Again all part of a plan to crush people In the middle. The lowest earners get forced raises and the people on the top just got tax cuts. What about the people in the middle.

My stubs are extremely vague. Pay 1 unit $1020, that's all it ever says. This job usually works out good with my child care situation. My wife leaves for work at 2pm I get home at 3:30pm usually, so we only need a babysitter for 2 hours or less.

The downside is the yard I work in is in terrible condition and they're slow about plowing snow. It's hard to not get stuck sometimes.

However, I keep reminding myself that the worst that can happen there is I get stuck and it's annoying; I'm not out there on the icy freeways. Also last winter I was OTR and pulling into unplowed customers anyway.

Also for what it's worth, I have to climb in and out of the yard truck to open and close the trailer doors all day, so I'm actually getting off my ### walking and moving around.

Hourly pay is around. It's common in some segments. Local/city Pickup & Delivery is hourly in most cases.
