My grandfather started a construction company the year i was born so i have been around hauling heavy equipment my whole life. When i turned 17 i joined the military as an equipment operator but for the 9 years i was in i drove the truck that is in my sig. When i got out i called the company i currently work for and filled out an app, interviewed and was hired. They started me with some normal oversize like smaller tractors some small dozers then i just worked my way up.
How did you get your start (in heavy haul)?

I was a heavy equipment and truck mechanic for a local construction outfit for two years, shortly after I started their lowboy driver quit so his duties were dealt out to me, I'd never pulled a lowboy before but I had a good idea of how to do it, I was moving around the paver, trackhoes, and the dozers to the different job sites quite often and it became second nature to me, I got sent down to Denver to bring back a crusher and an asphalt plant once, that took 6 trips. Then the company bought me a new transport truck and an 9 axle trailer to haul the new D-11R and the 110,000 pound rock saw they got. That company ended up laying me off due to the economy and I got the job I have now which is pulling hopper doubles, I usually gross between 105,500 and 112,000 pounds depending on what state I'm in. I miss hauling equipment but I don't miss the headache

I haul houses down the road. Anywhere from 14' wide to 24' wide and up to 18' tall. I am usually weighing between 85,000-120000lbs gross.

What kind of houses are 14' wide?

easiest way is get into a company that does it all and work your way up the ladder. I haul gross 140,000 daily. started running a single axle stright truck and worked my way up. I had tractor trailer experiance on the farm. licence at 18th birthday.

Yes I haul mobile homes, sorry for the confusion. I can gross up to 120,000lbs with a movesaver (double wide built length wise that gets cut in half on site and put together). Most 14' wide loads are double or triple wide mobile homes. Every once in a while I move modular homes that are up to 18' in height. That majority of my loads are 22' wide, 16'4" tall, 76' long and weigh around 100,000 lbs.

Can't say I have seen any of them. Expenses are a killer though, eating away 2/3 of my gross. Just wondering what kind of hp you ran? I have got a 550 isx in a 04 T600 and it seems to be underpowered the majority of the time. Thinking about getting a different truck and building it the way I want to get some bigger hp.
