Down payment and a loan for brand new 1995 FLD. I figured whatever interest I'm paying is what a company and the government would be making if I stayed company driver and saved for a few years.
Still driving it. Bought trailer new too. Used equipment is not for me, there could be exceptions though.
Been riding the gravy train and lovin' it. -
Me and my dad were driving on PA state route 504, climbing up the mountains, and we see the blue t600 in good condition on gravel driveway. I realized that truck didn't had any grease on. 4 weeks later, we still see that truck there. We decided to ask the owner of that truck. It is 04 t600 with 715000 miles. Has cat c-15 mbn with 500 HP, eaton fuller 10 sp manual, and eaton 3.71. He said he had that truck for 3 years. He drove it for 1 year and then stored the truck in his driveway for 2 years. We offered him $10 k for the truck. He agreed on it and we bought the truck. The owner said he never had that much money. We have replaced the waterpump, new steering Kelly tires, new rear drive Kelly kda tires, and new brake shoes. Now 735k miles on it. as of jan 6.

Was driving for a local company in 1986, one of the O/O's decided to retire so I went to the bank with a partner and borrowed some money, just left the truck leased to same company and eventually hired on a driver to start running team occasionally. 42ft flat with side kit came with the truck, last run it made I put 7 new skins on the trailer...10.00-20...I'm sure a few here remember those, took a load of hi-temp mortar mix to Cayce, SC and dropped it off, 30 miles south of NC line on I-77 the engine blew, local wrecker service at home which was a friend of the family charged me 700.00 to haul it back home, I ask the new rookie driver what exactly was the truck doing before it blew? Wanted to get an idea before I opened it up, said he was coming down a grade trying to get around another truck when it just started making a terrible noise. Ended up finding that #1 had swallowed a valve and pushed metal parts into intake and over into #2 wiping it out too. 1973 K100 with a 335 / 9 spd. Ended up cleaning everything back up "financially" and getting rid of it, I won't even go into the bad luck of having a partner in a business, sometimes you really don't know people.

Cash first old Mack and bought my 2003 Freightliner FLD at an auction for $8800 cash too. Less than 700,000 miles on the FLD, good deal I think.
Course I only use the tractor to bring the racecars to the track LOL -
i paid cash for my truck and trailer. got tractor from a used truck dealer amd trailer i got lucky on by meeting a cool guy on facebook who gave me a nice deal. working in the oil field for 2 years allowed me to save up some pretty good money. which is now all gone and i'm stressed and considering selling everything amd going back to being a company driver.

i haven't even started running my truck yet and i'm scared s-less about running into major problems that will break the bank. i was confident until reading the horror stories on here. my truck has a C15 and people here go on and on about all the problems they've had with them. previously i was under the impression it was a good engine -
Which C15 do you have?
-
I, uhh... don't know. which kinds are there? embarrassing question. the dealer knocked $5k off the sticker price and it drove real nice and sounded good so i jumped on it. i didn't do my homework, it just seemed nicer than most all of the 50+ trucks i've driven in the past 2 years

I just noticed in another thread that you posted in that it is in a 2007, so then its either a MXS or an NXS Acert, nothing wrong with those engines.
BORNtoROAM Thanks this.
