My dear sir, respect is earned not given, your age doesn't automatically entitle you to my respect. You referred to me as selfish, and implied that i'm inexperienced, i in no way shape or form retaliate in a negative manner. all of the statements i made i backed up with genuine examples. i don't know why you're getting all fired up and excited for.

Because you're narrow minded. Narrow minded as in you don't have the experience/exposure to judge different aspects of the industry, and you refuse to take a veterans word for it.

You really need to reread your posts. You're acting like an expert when you don't have the experience/exposure to back what you say. And I haven't called you any names, yet. Under 1 year of driving a class 8 CMV you're still a rookie in my book. If you actually had the exposure, you wouldn't be saying most of the stuff you say.

everything that driver has refrenced is pretty much from fifteen years ago, alot has changed. i never once said that fifteen years ago drivers did not need to help each other, all i said is that it's not needed as much, if at all NOW as back then. he's the one that cast'd the first stone.

prime example is cash, not many people carry cash anymore seeing has how everything accepts plastic. you can use plastic to get stuff from a vending machine. but at the same time i'm not blind to the fact that 15yrs ago you needed not only cash, but coins for everything. if you wanted to make a call and you were no where near your home, ya better have a dime. how about stamps, i remember when they were a penny, last i checked they were over 10cents, but not many people send letters anymore because times have changed. i remember when the internet was only email. now it's videos, emails, forums, it's pretty much the world but via a keyboard and monitor.

    TIMES HAVE CHANGED!!!

i'm not saying that the way that driver described trucking 15yrs ago isn't a fact, just that the way it is now isn't how he's trying to portray it which is why alot of drivers do things differently.

I.E, not stopping for broken down trucks.

I said nothing in reference to how the industry was 15 years ago. I'm talking about your posts on this forum. Some of the older school drivers are lashing out at you because you act like an expert. Maybe it's from the material you've read on this forum or from what you heard other drivers said, but it's not from exposure. Get yourself some driving years under your belt, and not just from OTR. Grab yourself a local job and work it a while. Then you will have the exposure to judge and then you will find out how wrong you are.

Let's get back to the stories , but 1st Thanks Ghost Ryder...I appreciate it.

Giggles , I've got one that will make you giggle all over........

I used to ride with a guy in the late '70s that did not hardly stop for anything....I mean this cat was hammer-down all the time he was driving. We made a decent pair though cause he liked to drive day-time and I preferred nite-time.

We were on our way back home from Salinas , and had just came off of I20 and got on the loop around Atlanta , when I woke up and had to go...I mean GO! There weren't any pee bottles in the truck so I asked him to please hit the shoulder....he said can't ya hold it til we get around the loop so we don't get stuck in the Friday afternoon rush hour traffic. I said OK, but HURRY.....

Well we got around the loop and back on to I85 N and I said man I gotta go , hit the shoulder...there used to be a rest area right past where there was a Starvin Marvin's fuel stop , and he pulled through the rest area and stopped on the ramp...I didn't put anything on but my boots , and swung out on the ground..OK picture this.... a grown man , no shirt , yellow boxers , and cowboy boots....got it. while I'm standing beside the fuel tank letting the river flow , this guy pulls forward about 50 yds....leaving me in all my glory. You guys know when you gotta go that bad , there ain't no stooping the flow. I finally finished my business and had to run back up to the truck...REMEMBER.... no shirt , yellow boxers , and cowboy boots...running up the shoulder of I 85N on Friday afternoon around 5:30 pm...

When I got to the cab and got in , hes laying all over the dog-box about to pee himself for laughing so hard...the CB is going crazy about that guy running down the truck on the shoulder .....

You guys running a team deal take heed to this.......I'm 63 years old now and if I live to be 163...I'll never stop to pee on the side of the road again...what is it they say....Fool me once shame on you.........

Well, back to the original point of this thread, I kind of got lucky as far as being "trained" in a truck. I say "trained" because most of it wasn't official. Went to truck driving school then did about 9 weeks of training. After that I teamed with my friend for two years who had 15 years experience. Even though it was teaming there was still plenty of time for him to teach me stuff. A lot of the little things that didn't necessarily have to do with the driving but the job as a whole and making it easier. Helped me a lot when getting started I think.

It was funny though because I had to pretty much teach him how to utilize the HOS. His idea of being legal before we both signed up for my first company was it was legal if he didn't get caught. Once we were on EOBRs it took him a bit to adjust.

FYI, the experience thing (atleast mines) doesn't update it's self. and i said labeling, not name calling. the moment someone with less then a zillion years of driving experience chimes in against the population they're labeled a rookies/super trucker (dependent on the topic). Forums is all about point of views. That drivers point of view is from 15yrs ago and that drivers no a days are pretty much POS for not doing it like it's was done 15yrs ago. I'm just throwing my point of view and possibly someone elses out there, that the reason it's not done like it was 15yrs ago is because it's not 15yrs ago.. and amazingly enough, 15yrs from now they're going to be arguing the same thing again.

almost like how people say drivers now a days aren't drivers because we got a/c's, air ride chairs, power steering, and windshield wipers. Go back 30yrs to when truckers were truckers, riding on top of milk crates with no seat belts, a/c's, or front tires for that matter. they always neglect the changes from then to now such as 53' vans that are 102" instead of 96" wide that still have to fit in a dock bay that was originally set up for a 96" wide van or how the roads are now more congested, DOT's can pretty much put a brand new truck OOS just cause and all of the other b.s new drivers have to deal with.
