Thinking about driving school and on the fence about whether to get a class a or b. It seems to me that class A truckers overwhelmingly get their experience by going over the road. Do class B trucks go over the road? What are likely ways to get experience as class b?
How do class B drivers get their experience?

Know quite a few companies that hire you, then give you 90 days to get your class b using their equipment.

Where are you? What do you want to get out of driving? I.e. money, career, travel, excc...

I got my class B driving school buses shuttles at a ski resort in Colorado. 15.45/hour plus free skiing, wasn't a bad gig. I had no experience and they hired and trained me for my class b.

Class A gives you options, Class B doesn't. Plenty of people drive Class A local right out of school, I'm one of them. Even at my first job which I left to make more money I made more than many who go OTR and give up their life for a truck. Don't let the myth that you MUST go OTR discourage you, because that's all it is, a myth.

At the school I went to, I believe the class b course was same as the class a. Maybe you should just get your class a and go get a class b job. Then you would have more options should the need arise.
Remember, you're not required by law to go otr. -
I got my Class B CDL Driving a school bus, I love driving but it's not a full time job and with lots of bills to pay making 17.50 and only getting 20 hrs. a week is not going to support a family of 5. I would love to do Class A right now but can't afford it, so I know the troubles of feeling stuck.. I would drivanything with a class b requirement but every interviewer I've tried with says they don't consider that experience! pffft I would like them drive kids around for a living and not say I don't have experience..lol

If you want to strictly make money drive a ready mix truck. After I got my class A if did but you only need a B. I left because I was logging in way too many hours. I get to see my family more with my TL company now than I did in the ready mix business. Though this is the slower time of the year coming up.

Drive a way uses class B drivers. As a class B driver you will drive anything from a car to a large Crane OTR in the drive a way business. When I did drive a way I specialized in Cranes I moved a lot of them from Pennsylvania to the west coast. Cranes so large I was driving with permits in almost every state I passed through. There are also a lot of Hotshot trucks driven OTR as well. The only problem with driving class B OTR is you get no experience credit if you decide to get that class A.
