Reading this site, it seems a lot of company drivers have had the experience where a company does not pay the bonuses that drivers legitimately earn. How do companies (legally) get away with this? Geez, almost seems like I am watching the movie Norma Rae. Isn't there some agency out there that drivers can complain to or file a complant when companies abuse them so? Yeah, maybe lose your job, but to me, some things (like not being ripped off or abused financially) are worth fighting for; especially when it is done so blatantly and you drivers work your ##### off.
How do companies get away with not paying bonus, etc.?

Most companies require you to get 10,000 miles a month. When you go home 4 days a month, that week screws everything up. Or you had a logbook violation. Or you were late to a customer once. Or you used too much fuel....
It's kind of like BlackJack. The odds are stacked in the houses favor. -
Yep - I don't think it's so much that they don't pay a bonus that is actually earned, its that the requirements are so easy to fall short of (even ever so slightly) that while the employee may think they met the critera, they actually missed out on something (like the previous poster pointed out).

fuel bonuses, on time deliveries, log book, safety, you name it, so many companies used to offer it.......like any thing else, you had to work with in the guide lines to get it. one screw up, and you lose it.....
many companies did away with some bonuses, and just gave an extra penny or two towards the mileage pay. some companies just did away with bonuses due to the economy......what ever.
i'd rather just have the straight pay any ways. because since it takes so little to miss a bonus, why bust your chops. -
I prefer to have a contract that states what I make for the job performed,...
No smoke and mirrors when a contract is in place,....Roadmedic Thanks this. -
Are "bonuses" a way for companies to pay less .cpm and still be able to stiff the driver?
Just askin'.....................Hope Roehl or Maverick are not too bad about this.Last edited: Oct 14, 2010

I don't think that companies are obligated to pay bonuses. With such high requirements to earn a bonus these days, I've stopped paying attention to it. If I earn a bonus, great. If not, oh well. Maybe the requirements should be more realistic and attainable?

Ah, the old bonus scheme you say? Yes, you run 10,000 miles a month and you get a bonus, BUT, isn't it funny how you only seem to run 9950 miles? Oh, BTW, that's dispatched miles, not deadhead miles.
