How do I "direct connect" my Sirius? Is it very difficult?

Company driver, so I don't want to tear up the dash, or anything like that.

I have already bought one of the adapters at a Pilot, but still don't have that little tool that you use to take out the radio (or faceplate, anyway).

It's a late model Peterbilt, if that makes any difference.

Any help would be much appreciated, I miss my Sirius, but it is so frustrating trying to find an unused frequency while bouncing down the road! :biggrin_25525:

The easiest way to do it is if you have an AUX input jack on the front of your current stereo.

Simply connect a mini-plug to mini-plug cable from the front of the stereo (input jack) to the line-out jack on the back of your Sirius receiver.

Select AUX on your stereo ... and you are good to go.

If you bought the adapter like I have, you have to pull the radio out and plug it into the antenna jack on the back of the truck's radio, then plug the truck's antenna wire into the little black box on the direct connect. Once you do that, you'll never have to change frequencies again.

Since you don't have the tool needed to pull the radio out, I suggest you take it to a company shop and ask one of your company mechanics if they'll be nice enough to take the truck radio out.

The factory Peterbilt radios have the old Ford style locking mechanism. If you look at your radio you will see a little hole in each corner of the face. You might have the tool and just not realize it, for some crazy reason the company I work for left the tool in the glovebox which allowed me to make the same modification you are talking about (which by the way works fantastically!). Anyhow, the tool will look like a piece of coat hanger that is shaped like a U. There will be one for each side of the faceplate (the front of the radio). You slip the two legs of the tool into the holes in each corner so that one tool is plugging the two holes on the right side and one is plugging the holes on the left side. Make sure you push it in probably about halfway, then just pull on the two U-shaped tools. The radio should slide right out. Now, if you really don't have those tools don't worry, it's easy to take out without them and without causing any damage. You can take four nails either 6d or 8d I forget which but you probably will have some laying around the house somewhere. Same thing, push a nail into each of the holes on the four corners. When the nails feel like they are in the holes sufficiently (you might be able to feel each nail move past the latches on the inside) push the nails outward and pull the radio out. The whole radio will slide right out, once it starts sliding it's unlatched. Make sure the nails are small enough to get in the holes, and make sure they are long enough to give you a bit of a grip. I hope this helps, I've done this many times on my old Mustang and several times on an '05 and '07 Pete 379.

I just realized how this entire tutorial could be mistaken for softcore porn...
