I know that a thin solvent perhaps 7000 gal in a 7500 gal tank will 'jiggle like Jello' & I had to make sure the driver wasn't holding w/ a death grip as that would make him fight the Jiggle and thats how you end up in the ditch.

You need to relax and go w/ the flow.

I know it is hard for a rookie but u need to relax.

Since it is not arm-strong steering, try placing your palms on top of the whee rim at 9 & 3.

The truck should track w/ out gripping as you have enough pressure to hold it still without your tight grip influencing things.

Most trucks have some free play in the wheel, I always found that holding the wheel to one side of the free play or the other would be the sweet spot to track nice.

My wife does the same thing in her car when she drives one handed but for the opposite reason, she is too loose unless she puts both hands on the wheel.

and biased ply tires steer tires that would explode so much easier than radials when heated.

when im driving I like to rest my palms on the center part of the steering wheel, I only really use the grips when im doing a turn.

One guy mentioned snow, they also need to worry about the wind storms too not being able to control the steering, all of us truckers know how bad that wind can get in some of those plain states.

Wolf's suggestion is a good one when highway driving. Putting your hands closer to the center of the steering wheel will require more force to turn it and nullify the "disconnected" feeling of the power steering somewhat. Also, the other suggestions about looking down the road are good. I often find that when I'm looking closer to the front of my truck that I wander and weave a bit more. It tends to come with little bumps and such that make you feel like the truck is pulling left and right so you countersteer a bit, then notice you are too close on one side so you counter-countersteer, etc. etc.

Relax, kick your feet up, and use your knees (ok I'm kidding) find a huge open parking lot, or empty truck stop and practice with the steering

Absolutely agree with this.....maybe the op's problems are in their head because power steering doesn't have any influence after certain speeds

set your cruise control on and use the smith system, using the smith system puts your eyes and mind driving the truck so you won't have time to think about steering. you will steer with out thinking about it.

Ran I-5 portland-eugene in mid 80s. Right lane was rutted and hauling triples. You didn't dare touch that wheel. If you were missing a box when you got to the yard it was somewhere between. Pdx/eug
