I live near a rail head in Fontana Commifornia, and seeing as how there are friggin 1000's of cars sitting around, there's plenty of work. Who would I contact about getting into the place to haul? Any suggestions?
How do I get loads from rail heads?

I do not have a clue and I thought I knew everything. However, my thoughts are if they want to ship it by train let the train take it to the dock! my 2 cents. -
Ever think to look at the yard and see what carrier's trucks are hauling the cars ? They probably have a contract . I doubt with 1,000's of cars they spend time arranging loads one at a time

The manufacturers might be paying the railroad for storage .... my home railhead has 1000's upon 1000's in storage here. Everything from KIA Rio's to Benz G wagons are stored pending transport. Alot of stored units aren't even assigned to dealers yet. A few years ago we watched about a hundred Santa Fe's sit for 9 months .... then overnight they were gone. On the other hand, if the carriers are behind for whatever reasons, they may be willing to farm out a few loads to keep the contracts happy.

See what companies are hauling out of there and contact them. They may sub some loads out to you.

I run out of a fairly small railhead. There are about 3 or 4 companies that pull out of there. I think that all of the transport companies sub contract loads out of there.

Thanks for the advice guys. I didn't see any trucks in the yard as I was driving by at a good clip, but I got an idea of who to contact.

I've pulled loads for JMN and Wagoneers as a sub contractor in San Antonio and Houston. When they are behind they pay decent. It's nice to load and unload at one pick and drop(normally same drop)

Fontana? Or are you referring to MIRA LOMA? Which is the largest Ford ramp in the country. Mira Loma handles all Ford going to LA, San Diego, Inland Empire, Palm Springs and as far north as around Bakersfield. Any thing north of there is handled by the Benicia Ford ramp going south. It is also a Chrysler ramp. Possibly some import traffic out of there too. Not sure who has the haulaway from there these days...Sierra Mtn? Contact them. Or stop by and ask which haulaway companies are working out of there. The entrance is off Etiwanda Ave. There is also a BNSF auto ramp in San Bernardino where the GM traffic is hauled from.MeanGeene Thanks this.
