Ben,
Let me get this straight.....He is running under your authority....but his DOT number? How does that work?
If he is running under your authority...Im pretty sure he has to run your dot nuimber on the truck, because if DOT runs his number and he does not have a valid authority then he will get shut down and your load and customer might not be to happy. I might be mistaken on this next part...but Im pretty sure you can only run one DOT number on a truck. Not positive but Im pretty sure. The other question I had for you is...Where did you find a broker that you as a company can afford to cut the rate again. Rates usually start off decent from the shippers but by the time a broker cuts the rate by half and gives it to another broker to put on a board...there's not much left. Just wondering.
How do I give my driver the load info?

Ben,
The other thing I meant to tell you is: If you are getting loads for O/O that you know but are leased on to your company then you are not double brokering the load...you are merely dispatching your 0/0. If you were double brokering the load you would be giving this to a different trucking company to run the load... The other part of the question from eariler is this...How will this guy be different than the other owner ops that you have running for you now? Legal wise...that is. -
I think the terminology was confusing. Running under my authority vs a lease agreement. The OP has now cleared that up and stated that he's new to the game.
I don't see anything to worry about the new operator stealing the freight simply because he does not have operating authority. People do it every day.
However, the learning curve in trucking can be huge and VERY expensive. What's even bigger and more important than the rules and regulations is the games people play. Many brokers are famous for it and a ton of money can be lost while learning how the game is played. -
Ok I guess we are not double brokering, not sure if FORESTGUMP answered it or not. We are simply dispatching for him and taking the dispatch %. This O/O right now dispatches for himself but he wants to work with us for our connections with brokers because he only uses the loadboard. Now my original question was if he is able to leave our company, run under his own DOT and MC, and call our brokers and take our loads for cheaper rates (our brokers might not even do it, but who knows). That's my concern. All of our O/O are legally driving for us.
Thanks for replying, it's really helping me a lot.
