A good accountant! You are going to need one. start off on the right foot from the beginning.

I did that all at Legalzoom for $500. You will be paying a registered agent between $100-$200 a year for their services. It worked well for me.

You need a notarzed document for state application for a private business. Go to a local CPA....with trucking industry experience. You can then apply for federal EIN and with those documents, open up a business checking account. You wll also need to pay for permits and bobtail insurance if traveling to the lessor.

The name all you have to do in N.C.is go to clerk of courts in your county and register your company name.they will have you look thru there books to make sure no one else is or has used the name.It cost$25 for the notary. If you have your own truck you should already have ein .Why do you want to start aLLC not needed for a one truck owner

He wants his own authority. Sub Chapter S Corp.....or LLC ? Sole proprietor can be used and eliminates the EIN. All business is tracked through SS#

Well I had a ein when I was leased to a carrier working on a 1099.I have never been inc.allways a sole proprietor Don't remember I think my tax person got my ein but you can apply yourself at IRS web site

Get any accountant to run through your plans - it does not have to be a trucking accountant because you are forming a business, not running. They will help you determine what is the best route but if they insist on LLC, then talk to a lawyer who specialises in businesses and liabilities - bet they will tell you a C corp.
By the way until I owned more than one truck, I did the SP and really had a lot of write offs so taxes were not bad at all. I would consider that for a one person/one truck situation. -
IRS website has the information on getting an EIN. I set up my company and it cost me a whopping seven dollars to register company name in my state. Paying other people money for something you can do in less than an hour is just plain crazy.
