Maybe try and go work for a company doing the same type of work for a year. Learn some of what the business is.

I have responded to your previous threads. Im an ownr operator and have plenty of friends in the same bussiness as iam. But its all location. I run in southeast pa. Myself and my coworkers run OLD IRon that we maintain ourselves. We make good money becuase old iron is cheap and very easy to work on. You live in California. You are forced to own newer trucks with all that emissions nonsense. So you will deal with lots of downtime and check engine lights unlike up here in the northeast. You wont be running 379 petes and mack rd models. 90 percent of owner operator triaxel dump trucks are premission trucks. They dont break down. If they do, its something as simple as a radiator hose or a brake chamber pissing air. So unless you buy brand new, in cali, you will be buying someone elses california emissions truck that is causing them problems and headaches. Thats my 2 cents. Move out of there
FoolsErrand, spindrift, tommymonza and 2 others Thank this. -

Sticker it and tag it and paper it with the State until legal to drive same.
Buy a backhoe. Buy a beaver trailer to take it with.
Buy chain. None of that crappy lowes chain either.
Put name in yellow book after getting courthouse business permit.
Find a tax man who can do your numbers.
Wait for people to call. "Ive got a hole in the ground to throw money into, can you help me?"
Why certainly sir, ma'am etc.
Learn what it costs you to buy a load of dirt, stone etc, what it costs to run everything in fuel and also payroll all round for a days work. Bill accordingly.
Above all... learn diplomacy. For example.
We had this yankee in Howard County insist on building a gravel road three feet deep back through his 6 acres of forest behind the house from driveway all the way to the cottage he built back there for guests.
The problem is that is raining and wont quit. Not last week and not until next week. One of those flooding rains.
Tell Yankee sorry you will wait until that mud around your knees dry out and can take the job.
NO NO NO NO NO. BUILD ROAD HERE NOW. TODAY.
Its gonna cost you.
*Profanity* the cost, bill me. It cannot be that expensive....
Ok. You asked for it. Produce contract in writing specifically stating conditions of rain etc. Mr Money impatiently signs the sooner you get to work now.
5 dump truck loads of gravel later followed by pulling out of stuck backhoe sunk to axles for 50 feet of new road is about a thousand billable dollars to yankee.
When yankee complains that you are doing a bad job of building a road in mudville, present him with the running accumulating costs and billing. Tell him at this rate it will be about 30,000 dollars to get to his precious love nest way in the back of his property.
You still want to be a dump truck business man after yankee finishes abusing you, your lineage, your idiot crew and dumb clueless people in view who have gathered to watch the show? (While they audibly snicker at the dumb moneyed homeowner demanding to get his precious road today like a child demanding a cookie at 2 years old?) -
Go flip burgers. You'll be better off.
x1Heavy Thanks this. -
