Illinois will not except out of state CDL's so what do we do? I know we need to retake the written and the driving. Is it better to just get that here and been done with it and then get hired by PRIME?

What have other Illinois drivers done?

You answered your own question. You take the written and the driving test in IL and they give you a IL CDL.

If you go thru Prime's school, you can only get a MO CDL, then you go with your trainer to IL and take the test all over again, using your trainer's truck.

Or get your CDL thru another school in IL and then get hired by Prime.

I knew the process of getting it. What I wanted to know is what others have done from Illinois.

I wish I could get out of this state to darn much BS.

Anyways I am into my 3rd week at a Community College program, $3800.00 In class one week then we have been in the truck everyday since either on the road or in the yard.

I choose the school for 2 reasons, If you train with a company they own you ! (Don't need that) 2nd was that stupid new Law where they will not except an out of state transfer, .

If I move out of Illinois and transfer my license to another state and then decide to come back again to Illinois they would still not issue a cdl to me until I pass the test AGAIN,

I know that there is one company in Chicago-land that will rent you a truck , if you decide to train out of state . What did Prime say?

    acme65 Thanks this.

Are you dense or Do you think there is some secret way around the way I described it.:biggrin_2554:

Im sorry, Im not giving you an name or email address... but trust me, I know someone from IL.... and an employee of Prime that went thru the CDL school.

that is how it was done!

Looking for an alternate route: Show up without a truck, that's one way you can do it different... pretty sure they wont let you take the driving test without a truck.

Im sorry, maybe you didnt mean to post this in the PRIME section... If you are planning to come to Prime's CDL school, you will do it just as I described... If you dont want to go to school at PRIME, you are stuck getting your training somewhere else, and preferably IN Illinois so you dont have the hassle

Thanks. I really wanted to go thru Prime but I don't want to take the test twice. I think it is stupid of Ill to do that as the written test are all the same through out the country. I could see if them made you do the driving test over to prove you can drive. And to any others out there I wasn't looking for a secret way around this just wanted to see what other flatlanders have done. Thanks for all your help.

I don't remember if the guy had to take the written again... For sure the driving. However it is possible he came to Prime with a Permit from IL, and even though he had a MO CDL, maybe they waived the written as he had to have taken it to get the IL permit.

You might ask about that at the DMV... If it works out, Showing up at Prime with a CDL permit makes your first couple days a whole lot easier.
