How do insurance rates react to csa points?

I recently joined a very small carrier, by bailing out one of their o.o. who got ill and cannot drive to his fullest capacity. So, I'll drive the truck for foreseeable future, at least until further resolution, but I hate to cause a problem like that. I've gotten a roadside dot inspection and the only violation was me not wearing a seat belt. 7 csa points or whatever. Does it matter comes the renewal time?

Seatbelt ticket did not affect my rates, and no mention of it by my provider

It depends on the overall record of the company itself if the underwriters see a risk.

as for the seatbelt issue, you should have been handed a ticket for it.

OK. So that's not something quantified by numbers but the underwriters' discretion?
No, I wasn't handed a regular ticket that you can take to a traffic court and fight it. It was a dot inspection report with that as a discovered violation only.

Without going into the discussion of the merits of wearing seatbelts and how they saves lives, it is then no different than any other violations they can put there on the sheet like HOS violation, brakes, or moving violations?

If the carrier has an otherwise good safety rating and a history of no violations there could be no rate increase other than the increase that most people are seeing across the board. Another option is that they tell the carrier their rate will stay the same at renewal time if you are no longer a driver there. Or they could use it as an excuse to raise their premiums.

Depends on the insurance company. Not all of them look at CSA. I had an agent tell me it's not even supposed to be considered.

I called the agent. He called the underwriter to find out that they care about moving violations, when considering a driver to be OK or not. Claims and accidents; at fault or not, is what the determining factors are.

Maybe if it were a repetitive pattern plus other b.s. in addition to a nasty accident, they would drop the driver but these non egregious violations are immaterial by themselves unless you got too many of them in a short time.

Sounds about right. Different underwriters have different metrics too. A good agent will shop around.

Seat belts aren't a risk factor to insurance.
