A lot of veterans used to get upset with me because I used to set up 3 cones when ever I did a blind side back at the shipper/receiver yard and even at truck stops. Yea I'm sure veterans made fun of me too. Veterans even used to honk at me but I didn't care. I didn't want to hit anything.

One day though, a veteran driver came up to me and said that what I was doing was really clever. After sometime I was no longer reliant on the cones. Now I can estimate and visualize them when I do a blind back. Now when I blind back anywhere and I'm in the box, I see a lot of vets still doing multiple pull ups. I don't hate though...we should all support one another, whether veteran driver or rookie. I always try and help. Thanks

I had a bright orange rubber pet toy that I used as a guide at night when I first started. Shadows confused me.

I've never used cones, but I've used pieces of pallet, a scrap of tire tread, or even just a shiny quarter in those places where you don't have any other visual clue as to where that extended line from the left side is located.
Markers work when backing into a double spot, too. Get close, step off how much room you have left, and set up two markers on the ground near your step. Boom! Nice tight gap to the truck (or obstacle) behind with only one trip to the back of the trailer. Parking by feel in a carhauler would tend to get a tad expensive...:D
